I’d rather us go back to 12 teams and let the old Big 12 be competitive again.
This is a mess.
Tell me what will the LSU regular season record be for 2025?

Nick Saban left because he was about to become diminished
Saban left because he already had two years of of NIL & transfer
portal just in its infancy and could see where it was going and wanted
no part ..... that the system of college athletics had changed and that he no longer believed in the things he had for 50 years .... that players were more concerned with how much they would be paid than with their development
.....that the transfer portal and NIL had created a difficult roster.
And yes , he gave his age as a factor and not wanting to start over in
what is becoming nothing more than minor league professional football
where college affiliation is becoming meaningless..

the solution is to make the conference even larger, bring in more old big 8 teams, and then we could do three pods: big 8 pod, sec west, and sec east

It’s been 1 damn season, . And that is just football. We are in the middle of basketball season and the SEC is having a historic season conference wide.
Yall are some over-reacting folks…
You forgot to add, a lot of fans had already decided its a failure before it even happened. So its not fair of you to rain on their pity parade.
Nothing stays the same. We won’t truly know for at least 5 years. That puts us thru all the sports cycles many times and a TV renewal cycle as well.
GA lost their QB which is why they never made the title game. That woulda been a good game, vs tOSU.
Tx folded on the big stage. And in ironic twist of fate the tx QB came from tOSU and tOSU won the title.
The conference will be just fine. Basketball looks great. And women's basketball runs thru SC now. Baseball, the SEC is a juggernaut there. Softball looks to be SEC heavy. Gymnastics again is loaded with SEC top teams. Many other sports as well.
Football will be back on top. Used to be teams had to win every game or lose one close to have a chance at football title. Now that we’ve seen a year teams might approach the season differently.
You can draw a line under 2 losses to make playoffs. Thats 2 mulligans that never existed. In the past had tOSU lost to Michigan they are out (not even counting their other bad loss). This actually keeps way more teams invested longer. That makes the season interesting.

Btw uhh play doesn’t have 3x the nattys as Texas
Texas has won 1 national championship game in the history of their program.

Losing divisions isn't so bad as we didn't have divisions prior to expanding to 12 teams.
The current number is just too unwieldy.
Missouri doesn't fit.

From 2000 thru the current season LSU has only finished ranked twice. No top 10 finishes either.
I believe OP was referring to football, not basketball.

Your emotional rant may be valid but, this is all business and the SEC has to match moves with, if not stay a step ahead of, B1G.
B10 still has those western teams. Now the fun part starts with all the other sports and having to travel. That cost is way higher than SEC. In fact SEC has the best and cheapest footprint for traveling in all sports. That coat adds up over years. It might even cost them recruits if families don’t want to travel so far to watch kids. Not a floodgate but it can make a difference in team talent. SEC is way better positioned in that regard

Correct. He realized the playing field was leveling and wanted out.
With everyone willing to pay players he hit the eject button before his reputation diminished.

NIL doesn't level the playing field as you will find out in the
coming years , unless some real changes are made.
But I think what really disturbed Saban was the raised potential
for one and done , not being able to keep a roster together
and develop players.
If you wish to believe the GOAT feared a level playing field , go for it.

Yeah but then LSU, msu, Olemiss and Arky are stuck with the big12 dork crew, due to geography.
No thanks.

Not for us. We got 2 huge rivals back. And there's no reason the SEC can't bring back divisions.
That feeling you have is because your program is circling the drain.

When did Ala. "lose Miss. St."? Even in divisions, y'all played yearly.

Have a couple perma opponents and let the rest of the schedule go by previous year standings.
WHY base next year's schedule on this year's results? You"re increasing the chances of playing teams more often than others that way. Set up a rotation schedule & let it run.

The consequence that hasnt happened yet but I think will is the loss of certain rivalries because games have to be spread out
The issue is the scheduling format. Creating pods allows those rivalries to be kept & cycle through everybody else.
But, from the SEC's history, it's about IMPOSSIBLE to figure out, somehow. keeping all rivalries & playing everybody H/A in 4 years.
IMHO, people want to see annual rivalries OVER seeing certain teams only when the rotation brings them on the schedule.
