Vandy OC and Petrino too...both have turned their teams seasons around in year 1.

Worst maybe...Oklomaha OC or Auburn. Prob Okie since he's already been fired. Freeze's new OC wont get fire cause he actually coaches RB's..lol.

Assistant of the Year is the OC at Vandy and it isn't particularly close. He is to Clark Lea what Joe Brady was to Ed Orgeron.

Not sure the stats really show that, what are the rest of the non LSU fans missing here?

81st in scoring defense to 35th so far. 108th in total defense to 67th so far. 42nd in sacks to 7th so far. 106th in turnovers gained to 40th so far.

For Vandy:

103rd in scoring offense to 35th so far. 114th in total offense to 95th so far.

I’m sure LSU being top 10 and the name Carrie’s plenty of weight, but to act like Baker hasn’t done a fantastic job so far is a bit ridiculous.

They're 67th in yards per play and yards per game. That doesn't seem like one of the best in the country.

Yards don't win games points do.

We play an extremely agressive bend but dont break defense that allows yards between the 20s. It's basically a heavy blitzing prevent defense. Force the opponent to make quick, accurate, underneath passes while getting pressured, hit, sacked, or flushed nearly every play. Eventually the offense makes a mistake, or takes a TFL / sack that forces a 4th down. Since week 3 we have only allowed 5 ppg in the second half of games and only allowed more than 30 pts once all season.

Coach of the year: Mike Elko, Texas A&M

Gonna be a battle between him and Lea, especially if Vandy pulls another upset.

While this is true, it's also hard to judge a unit (offense or defense) based on points because the other side of the ball contributes. A defense doesn't give up pick-6's. if an opposing offense gets the ball in FG range and goes nowhere and kicks a FG, the defense did well despite giving up points.

When judging the overall team, it's best to use scoring offense and defense.

When judging who has the best offense or defense, it's better to use total offense or defense.

UGA scored 30 points against Texas. But in reality much of that was due to the defense setting up short fields. The offense for UGA was BAD. The fact they had less than 300 yards of offense shows that.

I think the previous statement of "one of the best" is causing the hang ups. He's done a great job, but it's a stretch to say LSU has one of the best defenses in the country.

There should be no award for transfers. They get an automatic deduct for ruining the game.

No offense, but LSU is:

14th total yards allowed.
15th in passing yards allowed
9th in rushing yards allowed
9th in points allowed
Only using SEC.

What is your definition of "one of the best" defenses?

Idk the stats comparison offhand,

Was curious. I have herd Boo Carter's name called a lot for Tennessee, so I looked up stats for both:

KJ Bolden- 17 Solo tackles 7 Assists 1 Sack 1 Int
Boo Carter- 13 solo tackles 6 assists 1 Sack 0 Int

Both very similar. Bot excellent players.

Sorry. but 14 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble doesn't hold a candle to Kyle Kennard's 19 tackles, 12.5 TFl's 8'5 sacks and 2 Forced fumbles.

True.
