You know this will cause an argument of ranked at the time vs ranked at the end.

Some of this is self-fulfilling. If you lose to a team like Arkansas or Vanderbilt, the voters won't want to vote you into the top 25.

I mean, you can only beat the teams that are in front of you. If we beat someone, and then they continue to lose, not our fault.

I'd be curious what their record is against current ranked teams.

No one says it is your fault.

But you didn't beat a top 25 team.

it shouldn't as ranked at the end of the season is a TRUE factor of how that team was.
i see these stats on teams all the time in that they beat 5 top 10 teams and I'm like huh? When you check it they beat one.

That's pretty dumb logic IMO.

So weeks 1-12 don't matter then?

Finally. Ranked at end of season is the only metric that matters. Great post.

Preseason rankings determine a lot of things and they are usually very wrong. A team that starts out #25 can sometimes be #8 by week 4 and then the real season starts and they lose multiple games. There’s also almost always a top 10 team preseason that is completely off the wall and don’t finish ranked. (A&M in 2022, LSU in 2020, etc)

So yeah end of year matters way more.

Not when you look at it this way.

Weeks 1-12 ALL matter.

If you play a team in week 3, why shouldn't 4-12 matter?

End of season has all weeks matter equally.

All weeks matter... but not where the team was ranked at that time... only where they finish in the rankings.

Think about it this way. If UGA beat South Carolina and Notre Dame beat South Carolina... they beat the same opponent.

But if SC was unranked when UGA beat them and ranked in the top 25 when Notre Dame beat them, why should one win count as a top 25 win and the other not given that the two beat the exact same opponent?
