It's kids who have options and are not afraid to explore them if the coach starts channeling R. Lee Ermey in "Full Metal Jacket" like a lot of old-fart fans who view football as a metaphor for life and a test of manhood want and get off on, rather than a game where you score the most points and you get W's, and you get enough W's you get to play for the big trophy which is the only thing that really should be important and motivating you.
Here is another guy who is calling modern kids quitters. Interesting how you guys are framing it to make the coach the bad guy. Modern kids don't seem to have any faults.

It's a shame because young people need structure but we've created a system that prevents that

Hugh does fine in this situation

In this new era, football is a game where you try to get W’s, not a metaphor for life where coaches turn young mush into hard men anymore. Coaches aren’t necessarily bad guys, the world has changed around them. And old fart fans (and I’m pushing 70) who channel the days when their tough as nails high school coaches turned them into men by making them run gassers until they puked 50 years ago are butt hurt by it.

This is true. It’s a business now like the NFL. Nothing else matters anymore.

It's a balance. It's up to the coaches to find the players that have the talent but are also willing to put in the hard work to succeed. Talent without effort will suck. Effort without talent will suck.
Kiffin has done a decent job of getting portal players that are willing to work for it. Some teams evaluate players on talent alone. That's a mistake.

I don't know if it's modern kids as much as they now have options to transfer and get more money
Kids coming into these programs still want to eventually get to the real money in NFL and let's face it, kids want to represent the home state school majority of the time
Kelly told a player on sideline he was uncoachable and he's staying at LSU, and it helps his girlfriend is at LSU too

Modern parents suck and it's because their parents were crap. These kids didn't just change in a vacuum. I know it's weird to think about, but kids are shaped by the adults in their life.

I think what you are saying while being afraid to say it, is that modern kids are more inclined to quit on you than non-modern kids.
I might be saying not only inclined, but incentivized to quit on you.

Saban got out because it became like the NFL and he lost his secret sauce, whatever that was. Think about it - Saban never did great in the NFL, where the playing field is level - he had to get back to college - at places like LSU and Alabama - and where he created his advantage back in the cigar room. Maybe he never was that great of a pure football coach. Who knows.
Whatever “it” was I would prefer honestly. I at least enjoyed watching Great football teams instead of the shite show college football we got this year. Transfer portals, NIL, whatever it is, the quality of product is cut with some terrible additives

I remember many trolls here gleefully insisting players hated BK and would leave.

DeBoer looked sick to his stomach 90% of the time he was in the cameras.

Kirby's the only coach for a top 20 team I've seen chew some arse this year. NIL be damned. That's what we need. Sunshine and ice cream don't cut it.
