I would take championships over POY awards . There is either the big 1 with Kentucky or big 2 with Kentucky and Florida.

Florida isn’t a top 3 SEC basketball program. No success outside of 1 elite coach. Had a special group in back to back seasons. Those 2 seasons alone don’t make Florida a better program than Arkansas or LSU considering their mediocre history outside of it.

We've made the tournament two seasons in a row (Elite Eight one of those years) and have a Top 10 class coming in

Donovan is an all-timer for sure but you also have to consider the population boom in Florida in the 80s/90s a big reason both sports programs took off, and nothing should change as long as Florida continues to produce elite talent every year

Bragging about regular season championships from the 60s... what are you, a Tennessee football fan?

Never said Tennessee was top 3 in the SEC all things considered. I have Arkansas and LSU in the top 3. But you don’t get a pass for your lack of success pre 1990 because old people started moving to your state after that. 2 titles is great. But a 64 team tournament is a crap shoot, so that doesn’t instantly vault you above the success of those 2 programs and an argument could be made for Missouri as well.

Speaking of the 60s. Tennessee has nearly as many conference championships as Florida since the 70s and more NCAAT appearances.

this same argument seems to pop up a bunch, and I'll state again that while absolutely no one gives a shite about anything pre-90s since the kids being recruited today barely remember the early 2000s, Florida's run of success over the past twenty years absolutely dwarfs LSU's program

Florida since 1990:

national championships: 2
Final Fours: 5
Elite Eights: 9
Sweet Sixteens: 10
tourney appearances: 18
SEC championships: 6
conferene tourney championships: 4

LSU, all-time:

national championships: 0
Final Fours: 4
Elite Eights: 6
Sweet Sixteens: 9
tourney appearances: 21
SEC championships: 10
conference tourney championships: 1

Yeah, most of that success was Donovan, but at the same point, LSU has never registered as a consistent national powerhouse at any point of their tenure like Florida has been the past twenty years. Maybe Florida's run has come to an end (I hope not, and I think this year is just a blip) but it remains that 1994-2017 alone shits all over LSU's program

There have only been three programs in this conference that have had periods of consistent national relevance. And one of those programs hasn't made a Sweet Sixteen since the 90s (sorry Arkansas).

LSU is known for Pete and Shaq but very few would even attempt an argument that they're a better basketball program than Florida

Man, this entire thread was obvious trolling...I though so anyway.

SEC Basketball all-time:

1. UK

2. Florida
3. Arkansas
4. LSU

5. Tennessee

It's about being competitive in more than one sport... Sorry all of Bama's sports season ended after the Clemson game.

Nobody but UK has a better roundball tradition than LSU, that's a fact.

Florida was a Johnny come lately in basketball, just like football. Spurrier and Donovan ain't coming back, UF back to irrelevance.

Lol - what a dumb argument. So rankings of programs depends on what 16-18 year old kids have seen growing up? GTFO.

Yeah it matters for recruiting which can help sustain success. But it doesn’t erase history. 16-18 year old kids probably didn’t start paying attention to college sports around 12-13 years old (or later if they didn’t have a rooting interest). I guess we should throw out all everything pre 2013 and measure from there.
