Holy shite. Ole Miss is even worse than I thought.

They are basically mirror images. Tennessee has 3 more regular season titles, Alabama has 3 more tournament titles.
- Tennessee has 17 combined SEC regular/tourney titles, Alabama has 17 combined SEC regular/tourney titles
- Tennessee has 22 NCAAT, Alabama has 21 NCAAT
- Tennessee has 0 FF, Alabama has 0 FF
- Tennessee has 1 E8, Alabama has 1 E8
- Tennessee has 8 S16, Alabama has 8 S16
- Tennessee's All-Time Win % is 61.7%, Alabama's All-Time Win % is 61.1%
It's wild
Alabama does lead the head to head series 60-47. However, the average score of the series is Alabama 72.1 - Tennessee 71.5, an average margin of 0.7

They've made it past the 1st round of the NCAAT 3 times. Total. They've made it to the S16 1 time.

That's almost statistically impossible.

1 National Title = 20 Years of Making the tournament.
Way overvalued IMO. 25 would be more appropriate. I don't like the Conference Wins/Losses metric. Some conferences smash others.

Need to read. This is for SEC Basketball all-time rankings. What do other conferences have to do with it?

I mean, the difference in 1 in 20 and 1 in 25 is pretty negligible.

Which is why it's a pretty tiny piece of the overall number.

I think he is probably trying to make the case that Mizzou is better because it was in the B12 before.

He's a Missouri fan so I'd assume this is a Big 8 vs SEC thing

7. Alabama
Woulda been higher if not for the horrible call vs Indiana in '75 or '76.
I believe Bobby Knight said Bama was the best team they played that year

Definitely got some rough draws and lost some heartbreakers to great teams. Alabama NCAA tournaments ended in losses to the eventual national champions in
- 1976 (Sweet 16) (by 5 to Indiana) (closest game of the tournament for Indiana)
- 1982 (Sweet 16) (by 5 to North Carolina)
- 2004 (Elite 8) (by 16 to UConn)
- 2018 (Round 32) (by 23 to Villanova)

Interesting, because the toughest loss I ever endured as an LSU basketball fan was the Elite 8 loss to Indiana in 1987. LSU got absolutely screwed the whole game by the officials, who were so intimidated by Knight (that was the game where he punched the phone, among other things). Led the whole way and lost by two in the last minute. Prevented a back to back final four trip, which that year was at the Superdome.

Hurts knowing we had a good shot of making a run in the tournament last year. We could've jumped a place or two in the tourney only category.

How are ball/soul-squashing first-round losses and last -second shots by Tyus Edney factored into this?

All this time we were thinking the rivalry was because of football... clearly, we were thinking of the wrong sport.

How do Ole Miss and Georgia have so few points? Are they well under .500 in conference play or something?

quote:Man their years with Donovan and Meyer were incredible.
So basically their entire history is in the last 30 seasons.
I thought both of them were gonna stay there forever and create a dynasty each.
Meyer would have without a stolen laptop. He wouldn’t have beaten Saban every year but he would have got him a few times. Especially with Cam.

The problem with your system from a historical perspective is that you didn't include the NIT. Sure, the NIT is pretty meaningless now. But winning it...even getting to the final four...used to mean a helluva lot prior to 1975, when there were only 25 teams in the NCAA tournament. Until 1953 there were only 16 teams.
You give a team 6 points for making the Sweet 16. What about making the final four of the NIT in 1950 when there were only 8 teams in the NCAA tournament? That was every bit as great an accomplishment.
