Noticed he didn't mention baseball, which is good for the baseVols and Reese Chapman.

I think this move was expected, now comes the part where Lane calls out the conference for selectively enforcing rules and a possible lawsuit.

I don't see how it's selective at all.

Once you go pro (sign a professional contract) you can't play that amateur (college) sport.

Y'know, the same rule that existed for nearly 100 years.

Still makes no sense to me that a guy can play professionally in Europe and come back to college but can't play professionally in the US and return.

I agree. If you play professionally in any country, you should be ineligible to play in the NCAA imo. The Euroleague is a far better league than the G League and kids being allowed to transfer from one of their teams to a college in the states is so dumb.

Has there been cases of a US player playing in Euro league and trying to transfer back to the US college system?

For European players they don't have high school or college system. Their system is totally different than ours what's why we allow Euro players who have "played professionally". It's common for Euro players to sign their first "professional" contract at ~16-18 which is usually a very small stipend per month plus room and board. There are also several divisions in Euro professional basketball, similar to our minor league system. Most of these "professionals" are playing barely above Juco level ball making a few hundred or a couple of thousand a month.

Instead of exclusing european professioansl I think a better rule would be having their elegibility clock start as soon as they take their first euro paycheck.

Exactly! At some point, we have to ask the same question that Saban asked- “is this what we want college football to be?”

I mean, we’re paying players, letting them jump schools every year, and the NCAA seems toothless in court.

Now, do we REALLY want to add players bouncing back and forth from the NFL to college too?

Can you imagine working with the team all spring and summer, earning your spot, then having your coach come and tell you that he’s picked up an NFL player to take your spot?

The rule works- once you declare pro, you can’t go back.

This is going to be met with a legal challenge, because the language in the restraining order would seem to also apply to conferences. They could likely make a case of restraint of free trade, collusion or at the most basic level that the players in question had no choice, under the former rule, but to leave school.

The NCAA and the SEC continue to maintain its participants are amateurs, which we all know is simply no longer true. They are professionals with income.

Far from over.

The universities agreed to the conditions.

They'd look like complete idiots if they backed a lawsuit suing them for what they agreed to.
I have a feeling Verge Ausberry and Wade Rousse will go ahead and nip this thing in the bud. They don't want LSU feuding and challenging the SEC or treading in hot water with the NCAA. Cooler heads than Coach Kiffin's will prevail when it's all said and done.

So much butthurt on this board - you’d think Lane bent over all of the fanbases in the SEC and not just Sankey.

I truly don’t know if this board will ever recover from poor ole Lane’s antics.

This board has shown an utter lack of understanding of how all this is tied together.

This board because of their hate for LSU is so narrowly blinded.

Imagine thinking this is over. The courts will rule in favor of the sec, the punishment will be the punishment and those who tread in this territory will get precisely what they voted for.
