Checks ... yep LSU fans bitching about the refs once again. It's kind of pathetic at this point how much your team and fans whine

That was the best game I've ever seen.

Was watching craziness of 7 ot game at a bar, everybody there watching the game not the band playing. It was fun, dramatic & crazy to see basketball scoring numbers on both sides.
Its what makes fall Saturdays the best time of the year.

So, were there lots of injuries piling up in those games?

I'm not sure... How many of those injuries happened after OT #4? Since that's the only thing being changed here, it would seem anything prior would make that rationale irrelevant, right? And were these *injuries*, or simply players unable to continue to play... cramps, fatigue, dehydration, etc...

Best way to avoid lengthy OT is no extra points in overtime.

Wouldn’t that make it longer?

yeah... eliminating kicking altogether might make sense, but simply removing a mechanism for point differentiation would not improve things.

I always thought the logic was that as fatigue, dehydration etc. wore on, players were more at risk to make errors that would result in more serious injuries.

I mean, I doubt we see many 7 OT games, and maybe 4 OT is arbitrary but I can see where the concern comes from.

SEC should not have been trying so hard to get LS-WHO the win. Game would never have gone that long.

Maybe, but there's a counter argument to that, which is that players as they get more fatigued are less capable of hitting the high rate of speeds/forcible impact that typically drive major injuries.

My prior comment that they responded to was specifically calling out that there were only 5 SEC games in history that would have been impacted by this rule change, and there was 15 years before this most recent one occurred.

It's just an odd knee-jerk "we have to do something" sort of rule change, when clearly, there is no reasonable standard to judge by that would say "this is going to happen often enough that we need a rule change for it". It is doing "something" for the sake of "something", meanwhile there are plenty of other things that could use re-working that they didn't and won't touch...

The new SEC rule has to do with overtime scoring and requires each to employ a two-point try beginning with the fifth overtime period

Why take that long? I’d put it at 2 tops

They could just make the refs do their jobs correctly and we would have ended the game long before 7 OT’s. Just a thought.

Or, you know, your kicker should actually make his field goals in regulation to avoid overtime entirely.
Yeah, great idea. Just make sure the players don’t leave the game in a tie. Only aggy could insinuate something so stupid.

Line up at the fifty yard line. You get ONE play, then a field goal attempt or second and final play. First team to outscore the other one wins.
