I wanna know how the 1st person even came up with the color "burnt orange" & goes....."Hey - I like that!"

I think the thing most appreciated about the color is probably the fact that it's nobody else's sole color.

But I don't think I own, nor ever will own, a item of burnt orange clothing that isn't in some way affiliated with Texas or nike.

I was referring to the "inventor" of the color - if that's what they're considered; but I can see the choosing it for a school decision.

Alabama took Harvard's Crimson color and name

Haha, what?

quote:

In 1892 the Alabama football team made its standard uniform a white jersey with crimson stockings. Early newspaper accounts of the university's football squad simply referred to them as the "varsity" or the "Crimson White". Hugh Roberts, former sports editor of the Birmingham Age-Herald, is credited with coining the phrase "Crimson Tide" in an article describing the 1907 Iron Bowl played in Birmingham. The game was played in a sea of red mud which stained the Alabama white jerseys crimson.

The first issue of the publication we know as the Harvard Crimson was earlier called the Magenta. In 1910, Harvard officially adopted crimson as the school color.

That's happened a few times in this thread. I have no clue if LSU or Clemson first used Death Valley and Tiger Rag. But, I'm damn sure gonna claim it was LSU anyways.

Virginia Tech's colors are maroon and burnt orange.

Good call. Ugly as hell though. Imagine UT and Aggy mixing colors.

When they founded Ole Miss they chose Oxford as the location because of the name associated with the same namesake in England rather than a central location in Mississippi. Also the colors were chosen to be red and blue based on Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue.

Not sure but I think Hotty Toddy is based off some old chant also. I remember a scene in Band of Brothers where they were marching to that older chant or song. Not sure what the name of the old chant is though. I read about it but I forgot and I’m too lazy to look it up right now.

I'll give it to Texas, the burnt orange is actually pretty cool because it's drawn from the colors of Longhorns

CNB pointed out a few months ago that Clemson had painted an oranged out version of Mike VI in their locker rooms.
