1980s Miami is pretty much the best example. I think Schnellenberger had one prior to Jimmy Johnson too. That might not be the best run of any single program, but it's certainly the best run of a program thriving under three different coaches. Even the Parseghian/Devine era at ND fell short of what Miami pulled off.
