This is surprising given the land grant institution in most states often plays worse football. What makes the rivalry so lopsided?

Us leaving the ACC in 1971 was the turning point. Until then, the rivalry was fairly even. From the mid-1970's until our 5 game streak beginning in 2009, they dominated us.
