If it was the norm for everyone, it isn't a big deal.

But home field advantage is real (see the effect on betting lines). Traveling cross country is real (see the effect in the NFL on betting lines).

The neutral site game is great for recruiting (usually played in a non-home large metropolitan area). And it avoids a lot of the pitfalls associated with road games. It made sense why Bama did it. But it also is a sort of a cop-out when trying to stack the difficulty of OOC scheduling.

And as you have acknowledged, it isn't the same fan experience (missing the home game with a big name opponent and missing the road trip opportunity for a hungry fanbase).

Kentucky/Toledo looks like a bit of a scary one early on.

I suspect Toledo will make Kentucky miserable for about a half. Then the Wildcats will slowly pull away. Hell, Arkansas only managed to lose to Toledo through the near Godlike ability of Bert to find ways to lose games.

That having been said... Holy Toledo if Kentucky loses this game because the entire season could be in jeopardy if the team loses confidence that early on.

For a decade, Bama fans blindly defended the neutral site game

I feel we were willing to defend them as long as the opponent was defendable. Even the duds like West Virginia were historically good and competitive when the game was scheduled

#39 Ole Miss @ #26 Memphis (Ole Miss 36%, Memphis +6.2) (Memphis -6)

Memphis is likely going to take a step back this year from where they've been the previous handful of years. They have to replace most of their OL along with their two most explosive skill players. The quarterback is below average. Crowd should be about 50/50, with a lot of rebel fans living in the metro area and Memphis not having a huge fan base to begin with.

Ole Miss is going to be bad, but I'd take the points here.

S&P has Oregon at #20, so no surprise they see more than 3 in the point spread. I think the humans are expecting a jump in productions you can’t account for like having the same OC two years in a row for the first time in 4.

I do think putting Oregon at #10 is overselling them a bit.

Does Georgia Southern still run the option or was that Georgia St?

I don't think either run the triple option if that is what you mean.

Southern ran the old school under center triple option under Monken (and was famous for it before that), then Monken left for Army. Then Fritz came in and they ran a shotgun/spread option attack that was extremely heavy run (he's at Tulane now). Then they were a disaster for a few years with Summers, but now they are pretty good again and run the full on triple option but they do it out of the shotgun.

Their new coach really turned things around for them in a hurry. Two seasons ago they were 2-10, last year they went 10-3 in the most stacked (this sounds so odd) G5 division in college football.

Looks like they run some Skee-gun out of the pistol and triple option out of the shotgun mostly. Its not the traditional under center flexbone but they have the folks to give them some giddy up and go. Fortunately LSU has the speed on the perimeter to slow down a Skee-gun attack.

LSU will win but I would not surprised if GSU makes the Bayou Bengals absolutely miserable for a half.

A coach has to be a trainwreck not to win at Southern. They've had some bad blips on the radar, but they don't stay down very long usually.

still can't believe this. Shameful.

It isn't like we haven't had big time non conference games under Saban for 12 years now. Georgia is just now starting to schedule these type of games and are acting like they invented it.

Southern runs a shotgun based triple option similar to New Mexico if you've seen them.

Have you ever been to a road OOC game?

Do you think they are different than home or neutral site games?

Or at App. State for that matter. A lot of tradition and drive at those two schools.

To be completely honest... if I was an AD I'd think twice before scheduling either of them or Troy for that matter. You will probably win but they are going to go down swinging and all three schools have a puncher's chance of ruining your season.

My hat is off to LSU for scheduling them, though they were smart about it and got them the first week of the season so they'd have additional prep time.

Georgia Tech isn't much different than playing Tulane or Louisiana Tech

Get out of here with that garbage.

Georgia Tech, Auburn, and Kentucky have 8 losses to UGA the past 10 seasons.
They are on part with half of the SEC.
