I would say more like a 90% chance of no football.
I hate it, but I am starting to feel like its not going to happen
You can play MLB/NFL/NBA without fans, but you cant throw a CFB game without fans. The school relies on the revenue too much.
I don't see them allowing massive gatherings of 100K+ people in 5 months when they are saying this thing hasn't even peaked yet.
I hope I am wrong, I start grad school this fall and that would be a shitty 1st semester

You don’t think the P5 schools won’t play games in empty stadia to keep the TV contract revenue coming in? That may be their only revenue stream and thus their lifeline. It will crush businesses in towns like Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge and Gainesville but if it keeps the athletic department lights on, they will gladly do it.

This....they also may not play in front of 85-100K people but there will be some people in the stadium but most importantly TV deals will be honored and paid off.
You could push the season back 1 month fairly easily by cutting out all non-conference games.

Yeah, I don’t see how we have a football season this year. It’s not going to happen. Hope all schools have some money saved up somewhere because they are going to need it to pay bills. Hoping for a vaccine in the near future.

You mean football departments have become bloated because they're the only one's beside basketball that make money. If there is not football, it's all the other sports that will suffer.

I don't have numbers to back me up I am just guessing. I would imagine that the cost of putting on a game with all the support staff and logistics involved would be cost-prohibitive without the ticket revenue. Maybe the larger schools could pull it off but would someone like Boise State be able to survive just on TV revenue? I am not an economist by any means

I thought I remember reading nearly every sport other than football and men's basketball are actually in the red for the vast majority of programs

Great!
Really looking forward to seeing what form college athletics will take after the NCAA chokes on its own rancid vomit! Maybe they'll finally move out from under the thumb of the National Football League too.

If they can't get the guys back in the weight room soon, there indeed won't be a season.

Haven't heard a whole lot about paying players lately.

I was just coming to post that a year of no football would completely gut Title IX. There wouldn’t be any money to support it.

The state of Florida, which has no state income tax, receives 60 million a year on college football tax revenues. Even for a state the size of Florida, that is a large number. State agencies are already getting very, very, very nervous.

Not to mention how many people would still be in the stadium just to play the game and broadcast it. There are probably 150 people involved in a game that is just players and coaches.
Then what happens if a team has an outbreak and cant field it's best players. Or a state like Kentucky curbs this pandemic but a state like Tennessee is still shelter in place. The problem is until you can figure out a timeline that works for all teams and states you can't make it an even playing field.
