Gumps, this is not a positive statement

And this statement is not original.

I think we've heard all this from the rest of the SEC since 2010. And everyone knows that the reason Saban agreed to the Michigan game in Jerry World is so he could talk to him and get the details of the Cowboys contract ironed out.

At what point does national media start to take Bear Bryant's #1 ranking down from GOAT Head Coach list?

After Bama wins the BCSNC again this year, you'll hear dozens in the media say Saban is the greatest ever. Once you consider the parity across football in this day and age...it is evident.

GOAT Head Coach List:

1. Saban
2. Bear

3. the rest

Lets pull those reins back just a tad there bro. A run is one thing, a sustained and consistent mark of excellence is another.

If he wins this year and then gets another 1 or 2 more I'll be more inclined to say that but I would like to see success with more than 1-2 recruiting classes.

He is however 2nd only to Coach Bryant for sure though IMO if he wins it again this year or next year.

In CFB????? puhleese. He choked in the NFL where it is damn near the definition of parity, and bailed before his team went down in flames. The reverse Pete Carrol.

this has nothing to do with anything I said

all I am saying is he has flat out lied to reporters twice about his real plans...so its pretty hard to trust him on anything

he keeps everything close to the vest about the team and himself when speaking with reporters...his future plans are no different

you can think he will stay for whatever reasons you want, but this statement should not sway how you feel one way or the other

Oh yes, I almost forgot, while I'm referring to things I learned from the SEC Rant.

Since he said he wasn't going to be the Alabama coach, that automatically means that any time he denies a coaching change rumor, it really means he's gone.

"I think most people know I'm here for the long haul," Saban said. "I'm not looking for another challenge. I've done that too much. "When I was at LSU, I was ready to settle in except for one thing: Would I ever go to the NFL? Well, I did that and learned about myself and feel fortunate that I got back to a good place where you had a chance to win, and that was here. So regardless of what anybody else says, I'm not looking for another challenge. "I'm not satisfied with my performance, but I am satisfied with myself being here."

He's such an honest guy too. I'm sure he means it.

No, since he never reveals anything to reporters (injuries for example)...you have to take everything he tells them with a grain of salt

this statement is neither good nor bad...its just a statement to get the media to not ask it again so he can focus on the next game and the rest of the season

anything else he said such as "no comment" or "we will see" would only lead to more questions and speculation and distraction for the rest of the year

its pretty simple

ETA: and this goes for pretty much every coach of every college and NFL team
