I ask this question mainly because admittedly the Ags have no freaking clue how to answer such a dilemma because we’ve never been there.

But let’s hypothetically say Saban, does eventually start to lose some games and not make the national championship on a regular basis. For the sake of argument, let’s say NY6 bowls and such but not much better.

My question simply is is Saban a fixture at BAMA regardless of what he does or is there an expectation even for Saban.

Realize Bobby Bowden started losing game’s fairly regularly before he was asked to retire. Don’t get me wrong, I think that’s a ways off. For sure.

Anyway.

A&M has never had this issue, what is the protocol?

Nick turns 70 this year. My impression is that if the wheels seriously came off for whatever reason in the next few years he'd hang it up on his own before anyone could seriously think about replacing him.

Saban will retire long before he does anything that warrants him being fired.

His standard is just as high as ours.

Saban will retire to his lakehouse when he can not meet his expectations. If you are asking if he would be fired? The answer is no because he will retire on his own.

If Coach Saban started to regularly miss the standard he sets for the program he would resign. He can stay as long as he wants but I don’t think he’d do as Bowden did.

Now if he is still making the playoffs consistently he may coach until he hits age 100 Guy is a machine.

He is and clearly has no interests beyond football. To me, though, it’s just too big and diverse a world to be so hyper focused on just one thing.

But more power to him.

Saban will make the call, BUT there's one thing that you can count on, and that's if he starts to lose his edge and begins to drop back to the pack, he'll call it quits. Losing would make it no fun any more, and he'd be gone.

I don't think so. He's compelled to be around the game, and he'd probably get into the TV business, and call all the shots.

I’m pretty sure we’d get advanced notice if he was retiring. He would make a decision well before his final season started. Pretty much the way Coach K is going out.

I think as long as he’s healthy and has a passion to Coach, he’ll be here. I don’t think he’ll renew his contract anymore. 2028 is when it ends.

I still think Dabo will be the top pick to replace him. That might not be popular opinion, but it is what it is

Saban has earned the right to an off year every once in awhile. Should the off years begin to accumulate, he'll retire.

It’s going to be so awesome when an 80 year old saban is still dominating the SEC

You are such a sad little person.

To answer the OP, if Saban ever became a liability, which he won't, before he decided to retire, Alabama would let him go on gracefully, similar to ESPN and Corso.

He would never be fired and he has earned that position.

Lastly, you are still a really sad little person .

Saban is a fixture at Bama, based on what he has done there. As far as him sliding into a Bowden-esque 9-3, 8-4 funk…Saban would step away, much like Bryant did. Both coaches had/have a standard of excellence that they knew they had/have to meet and neither would/will accept anything less of themselves.

It's because he's hyper focused that he's the greatest of all time.

Like I said, more power to him. But I would rather have more diverse experiences in life. I like the route Jimmy Johnson took. He was a damn good coach, too, but hung it up around his late 50s and became an avid fisherman and scuba diver. He found something else in life to enjoy.

Not a criticism, mind you. We’re all wired differently. Just not how I would want to live even if I won every game and had statues, street, and building names galore.

That said, I don’t think the game will ever pass Saban by. His health will slow him down eventually and when it does he will retire.
