On this date in 2015 urban is clearly better than
saban your only as good as your last win.Urban
bested Nick in last head to head. Next time tables may turn.

I'd love to know if in 2012 had Ohio State had not been on probation, would they have had a chance at bumping Alabama out of the national championship game. If so, Meyer, at worst, would have the same number of championships as Saban, and at best one more. Meyer's winning percentage is crazy good and not sure I've seen a team overcome as much adversity as his team did this year.

It's almost like greatness is fluid and subject to cyclical changes!

Leaving a program that you won titles at in a dumpster fire really is remarkable...
That's the definition of a dumpster fire?

In terms of CFB prestige of the 4 schools.
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. LSU
4. Florida
In terms of where the state of the football program when Meyer or Saban arrived, I would rank them as follows:
1. Ohio State (6-7 previous season, on probation but multiple national title game appearances in previous 10 years and won 5 conference titles in a row from 2005 to 2009)
2. Florida (not on probation but hadn't won SEC East in previous 4 seasons, loaded with talent and even Zook managed to win 7 games every year)
3. Alabama (6-7 previous season, on probation, not in contention for national title since 1993, 1 SEC title since 1992)
4. LSU (3 winning seasons in previous 11 seasons)
You could argue that Florida was a better situation than Ohio State at the time Meyer came in but there's zero doubt LSU was the worst situation (at the time Saban hired) and Bama wasn't a whole lot better but definitely worse than Florida's situation.
That said, OP will hook many with this thread.

So Saban is better because he turned around programs and made them back into national powers. Urban took over already good teams.

What was Ohio State doing in the years before he got there?

That was what I said in TnM's thread....Meyer walked into vastly better situations at UF and tOSU than Saban did at LSU and Bama.

To be fair, LSU won the West that year because the West sucked balls. It was like winning the NFC South this year.
We were 5-3 in conference. Auburn was the only other team with 5 wins and we beat them head to head.
I don't think there's been another year with a 5-3 champ from the West when they didn't qualify due to a better team being on probation (like 2002). South Carolina did win the East in 2010 with a 5-3 record though but the East always sucks balls.
Beating Tennessee in the SECCG while Junior and Lulu watched was pure awesomeness though. A treasured memory I thank Lord Saban for.

Yeah but we didn't get our compliment of full scollies back until 2007 or maybe 2008 was the first full year.

Yeah, they did start out 9-0 in 2005 but then lost to LSU and Auburn so that's how we know the Tide weren't that good that year.
Though Shula did beat Urban Meyer's Gators 31-3 that year so... (head explodes)
Okay, maybe the Gators were a dumpster fire thanks to Zook. But 2005 was the only year that Shula didn't suck something fierce. I would argue that Shula put Bama in worse shape than Zook left Florida. And Florida wasn't on probation when Meyer took the reins.

I think the correct answer to all of this is so far, Saban is better; but Meyer is right behind him and has a great opportunity to pass him.
