Saban still has a soft spot for LSU. He would rather see LSU successful than Ole Miss.
Saban is a realist. Soft spot for LSU or not, he wouldn’t have made a pitch for Kiffin to go to LSU if it wasn’t the clear better job.
Pete Carroll the same thing.

Saban recommended DeBoer to Alabama

"logical way"? Saban was notorious for paying players under the table and getting away with it. He got out because he didn't want to compete with other schools now that paying the players was legal and everyone was going to be doing it.

Saban is a crybaby, unethical, immoral piece of shite for a person. He is however the GOAT CHEATER.
So really guys like he and Lane are only good coaches when they have advantages, even if those advantages come through cheating.

Saban was a GOOD coach. Cheating and buying teams made him exceptional.
Lane? What did he win? Did I miss something?

Mizzou fan just pissed because we didn’t take their mediocre coach. Melt MFer

Saban evaluated and developed players better than anyone to ever do it. Yeah he signed the best talent but he also had by far the lowest bust rate of blue chip talent too. That’s what made him exceptional. His teams were always the most prepared regardless of how elite his calls were on game day.

Crazy that Saban was the only coach that was able to do this and get away with it.

Saban's strength was recruiting to stock-piling talent, organizing, and toughness. He was not necessarily a chess-master X & Os coach. These things drove him out of coaching
* He couldn't stockpile talent and had to recruit them every year.
* He couldn't be as tough on the players as he needed to be without them demanding more money. The players were starting to run the organization.
* It was getting harder and harder for him to get good asst coaches every year.
Saban retired because he was on the other side of 70 and coaching is a 24/7 365 gig he had done for decades at the highest level. He had nothing left to achieve, he has so many Championship rings he can't wear them all. Why spend the time and health you have left at that age dealing with all the changes in CFB and the never ending circus? I have little doubt that if Saban was 10 years younger he would be out there dominating in the new world, he was not only brilliant at what he did he also showed he could adapt.
Now he gets to do whatever he wants and enjoy his generational wealth he has created while he is adored everywhere he goes and he spends as much time with his family as he wants. He earned every bit of it too.

That’s more truth than I heard at church yesterday.
After this fiasco, who wants to hear Lane or Saban preach about loyalty, character, commitment, etc?
Frauds. Grifters. Liars.
Zero character.

He always has been. He is a great football coach.

I don't really care about him advising him to go to LSU.
But the whole idea that Lane could stay on and coach the Ole Miss team was just bonkers.
I think the whole reason Lane even came up with that is he literally thought the Ole Miss fanbase and brass would've loved it. I think he was shocked when they said we can't let you do that. It would just look bad for the university.
Even in his chat with Marty he seems to think that in a few years the Ole Miss faithful will look back at his tenure with fondness for him. Dude does not live in reality.
Can you imagine what would've happened if he won a quarterfinal game and they are presenting him with the Orange Bowl or Sugar Bowl trophy what his own fan crowd reaction would be like? I think he thinks he'd lift up that trophy and be cheered with deafening applause. Clueless man.

I agree, but he said Saban and Carroll advised him to do all this.

Who cares? Lane is still Lane. Who cares what any of us think?
LSU is better than they were 2 days ago, Ole Miss is worse. How much for each? We'll see. I'm not losing any sleep either way.

Correct. And his attention to detail in terms of preparation was elite. No detail overlooked.

Bizarre melt
I don't really give a shite about Kiffin or where he coaches..College Football is gone forever anyway. Tradition and Natty's from yesteryear don't matter to recruits. Sorry bluebloods that's reality. It's all about money now...period. Only thing that matters is one year ago, presently, and next year.
What I find "bizarre" is when anyone criticizes Kiffins actions, or the way he played this, it is considered a "melt" by LSU fans???

I’m really interested in LSU fans take on how Lane can possibly teach his team about loyalty, character, commitment, etc?
Won’t sane people laugh in his face?
