Urban had the Gators rolling when Saban arrived, much like Saban has Bama now. Saban lost to Meyer in the SECCG his 2nd year, just like Kirby lost to Saban in his 2nd year. The comparison ends there. Saban gave Urban a heart attack in Saban's third year on his way to the national championship. While Kirby's 3rd year has him playing a meaningless bowl game vs. a 4-loss team.

Michigan State was placed on probation and lost scholarships in 1996 for infractions in 1994. Funny how people always forget that or fail to mention it as it doesn’t support their narrative.

The way to compare is to look at improvement during Saban's tenure over the previous regime.
19-16-1 during Saban (first 3 seasons)
16-18 just before Saban
Teams that regularly outperformed Saban included Purdue, Iowa, & Northwestern.
It took time for Saban to become 'Saban'.
Right now, Kirby is doing the job of a DGD in his first stint as a HC.
