Thanks, Victor, that was a great synopsis.

Alabama can run the ball just fine.
Your OC chooses not to.

The actual Alabama player that the movie character, Forrest Gump, was based on was a great running back for Bryant.
DeForest Bump was a roommate of Johnny Musso's and the two were a early version of McFadden and Jones at Arkansas.
Look up his stats.

Steadman Shealy is younger than Pavia so he should still have 2-3 seasons of eligibility left.

I pray MFBATR squares up on the honey teabagger in the open field like that

There is no reason for this type of language and behavior in this thread. You should be ashamed of yourself.

For a tall guy, standing at 6'2", 208 pds, he has a fairly good set of wheels on him. He will be okay. If a QB was ever made for the wishbone, he is it.
We'll see come Thursday.

Did you know that Bryant learned the wish bone from Darrel Royal and Emory Ballard at Texas?

That's the whole idea behind the devious nature of the plan they are working up. Who in their right mind would believe a team that can run't the ball more than 2 inches a play, if lucky, would revert to the wishbone.
It's ingenious. The fullback and two halfbacks will just be decoys because whoever they find to fill the positions will have no idea how to run the ball anyway.
It's going to be all Simpson. Think of it as the triple option but with just one option.

There is some talk that Alabama will, surprisingly, implement a crude version of Bryant's old wishbone formations versus Indiana in the Rose Bowl.
It will only be a few snaps here and there to trick Indiana into thinking Alabama can run the ball. Simpson's mobility will be the bait to lure them in because the actual running backs never learned how to run.
Simpson will keep the ball in every scenario where this happens because, again, the running backs are virtually useless.
There are 14 games this year that can be presented as evidence you can't run the ball. Gonna be hard to trick anyone.

In my day, all the Texas high schools ran the wishbone. Started to get figured out as I've described. Then the Houston veer came out adding a passing option to slow down the defensive attack.
The Houston Veer pre-dated the wishbone...
And as far as stopping it...
I don't know how they did it in Texas HS football...
But in D1..
the first thing teams did was to eliminate the pitch because that is where the big plays came from. They reduced it to a FB-QB offense. This limited the carries for the HBs... who were the most dangerous runners.
Then as you said. They tried to punish the QB as much as possible.
They basically tried to make you beat them with the Fullback. Usually the least explosive of the three backs... running through the same gaps over and over again.
Defenses would then run different stunts with their DL and linebackers to cross up the interior line in terms of who was coming for the fullback.
The most effective one was the Miami stack... where the LBs would line up behind the DTs. OL and QBs never knew which player was taking the FB.
Also, Miami's LBs were fast and could run laterally and get to the opposite side of the field to cover the pitch if you happened to get the option out to the halfback.

This "rumor" came from some random Bama fan who called in to Jox (Cole and Mac) and said, "if anyone is listening on the coaching staff, this is what we should do..." And to be frank - dude sounded dumber than a box of rocks
