Indeed.

Or he could have come back for his senior year, played lights out, and ended up getting drafted high in the first round as Mark Barron did.

And what does any of that have to do with Saban calling him out in public?

Using Saban's own counsel to players apparently it was.

Mark Barron tore a muscle against Auburn in his junior season. He came back for his senior year and ended up being a Top 10 draft pick.

I believe I am on record in this thread saying I am not a fan of Saban making this whole thing public.

Or a coach leaving a player in when they shouldn’t? Because of the coach’s own interest. You know, like Prothro?

I’m sure Bama fans still support the decision Shula made in keeping Prothro in too — the hell with the kid’s future.

This pretty much already happened. Remember when he stepped over that Dolphins player having a seizure? According to them he did nothing wrong

And Harrison could’ve come back, re injured that shoulder, and dropped out of the draft entirely.

Instead he chose to take what is life changing money for him and his family, and now his insecure coach is upset and calling him out after getting waxed by Clemson.

I have never seen a single Bama fan support him still being in that game at the time he got injured.

The same thing could have happened to Barron. But it didn't.

Mark Barron took a risk coming back as it was reported that he really wanted to declare early for the draft. Saban convinced him otherwise and it ended up working out for him.

Yeah, this is dumb. The vast majority of Alabama fans were asking the question as to why the starters were still in up 31-3 in the fourth quarter. What was worse, it was fourth down on the play Prothro got injured. Fourth down and we threw it deep into the end zone

And Harrison decided to go pro and is well on his way to a successful career.

There’s no guarantees to whether he’d stay healthy or not, better to get paid ASAP.

Again. The coach’s self interest. And you guys wanted to run it up, don’t lie.

Just like you guys want players to return. You don’t care about their future, you just care about winning.

If Saban were keeping players at Alabama for his own self-interest, he wouldn't tell them to go pro after their junior year. He does that over and over again. The vast majority of the first rounders to come out of Alabama since he arrived back in '07 have been juniors.

He has been pretty consistent with going if your draft says you are definitely 1st or second round.

No one can argue a 1st rounder out of it. That’s stupidity.

Saban is praying on the player’s uncertainty and maybe keeping them around another year on the premise that they’ll likely make more money — which is entirely false. If you’re a 2nd or 3rd rounder, statistically you won’t move up just by coming back a year. It’s quite the opposite actually. It makes total sense to tell players projected in the 5th-7th round to return.

No, it isn't entirely false.

Mark Barron wanted to leave after his junior year, despite the fact he was only given a second/third round grade. Saban advised him to come back for his senior season because he felt like he had the talent to advance into the first round. So Barron came back and ended up becoming the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Ronnie Harrison was a solid player for Alabama in 2017. Had he come back for his senior year, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he could have moved up to the first round with an extra year to hone his talents. Obviously he's a talented player as he had a solid rookie season.

Some of these young men have very low event horizons.
