“If you’re a third-round draft pick, and we had one here last year — I’m not going to say any names — goes and starts for his team, so he’s making third-round money, which is not that great," Saban said Saturday, clearly referencing Harrison. "He’d be the first guy taken at his position this year, probably, and make $15-18 million more. So, the agent makes out, the club makes out, and now they’ve got a guy that’s going to play for that kind of money for three more years.”

I like this Harrison guy.
No shite Saban and other coaches want to keep these guys around as long as they can. There's certainly self-interest there.
And there's no guarantee he would have been a first rounder this time around either.

From the perspective of a guy who makes >10 million a year.
I’d take 3rd round money and never need to work another day in my life.

Everything Saban said was true. Living out your dreams is great and all but leaving a substantial amount of money on the table is stupid.
Especially since he isn’t guaranteed a second contract. Why wouldn’t you try to get the most out of the first one?

4 year contract for 3,000,000 .
When he could have been making that much per year .
Saban right , again .

Spoken only by broke poors who have never earned in their life.
Dude's entire contract is 3 million and after taxes he is probably bringing in 1.8 to 2.2 million.
That's a lot of money for somebody earning 40 or 50k a year. Not for people who actually have earned higher.

No guarantee he would have been a 1st round pick. You risk injury, could have had a down year, etc.
He's getting paid, and if he performs well, his next contract will be 10-fold.
I don't blame Harrison at all. Saban is just a whiny bitch.

Coach is right, the guy would probably have made more money, so I don't mind what he said. But there's been several examples of potential first rounders that came back for their senior year and dropped in the draft, so you never know.

All he had to do was stick around another year, risk a major injury while getting compensated almost nothing. All while getting lectured by some a-hole making 10 million a year

Obviously this guy is any idiot. In a league where the average career is not very long, it’s important to maximize your value. This guy left early for third rd money with no guarantees that he’ll even be in the league at the end of his contract. Had he waited 1 year he’d be making millions more. As Saban pointed out, everyone is making out like a bandit but this guy and he’s too fricking stupid to realize it. Enjoy that 3rd money dumbass.

Saban is going down in flames. No coaches want to work for him. Players are leaving like rats jumping off a sinking ship. Former players putting him on blast. It’s over.

Yeah, a third round pick like Harrison is not a good example to use. He was paid an $800,000 bonus and got a $3 million contract. I would say he definitely made the right decision going pro.

Harrison, much like the people on this board, didn't and won't read the original article. Kinda making an arse clown of himself.

Laughable.

Bama is falling a part. Clemson broke them

Let's see where Harrison is in 3 years. Saban knows this end of the business as well as anyone, and to say he'd knowingly steer a kid in the wrong direction is not only ridiculous, it's stupid....but we obviously have a lot of "stupid" running around this board, so..

Harrison just hasn’t adjusted to the Bama to the NFL pay cut. He’ be fine once he cuts out cable and starts bringing his lunch to work.
