I think a group consisting of Auburn and Bama grads should produce their own special on the rivalry. Starting with the oldest generation up to the current.

Something will some real depth and emotion to it that helps explain why each side feels the way they do. Told not just primarily through the last two year's games. That would be a good documentary if you could combine that and the recognizable players and coaches (like last night's did).

Would there be any mention of that tree vigilante Harvey Updyke?

Just as a brief footnote, maybe in the closing credits just to announce his jail sentence.

Would you also mention Finebaum and play some of his calls?

No. He is not needed. yes he has managed to rile up the trailer parks, but at no point is he the reason the rivalry is so intense. He has just caused the amount of stupid crap that occurs to increase.

No doubt. One of the reasons I don't listen to him. Its just stupid radio with mouth nothing but mouth breathers calling in.

In saying that, hasn't he become engrained in the Gump/Auburn culture? I mean he has become the go to person in the state when it comes to all things AL/AU football.

I wouldn't think you would need to. The Rivalry has been despite Feinbaum. He has a job because of the rivalry.

As for Updyke you can make some reference.

I see what you are saying, but he hasn't made the rivalry what it is. He is a popular blip in a long history of heated contests. However, in no way is he needed to give an accurate account for the intesity of the rivalry.

This study was done starting with 1991, so Florida's violations in the '80's weren't included.

I disagree. I remember hearing him in the late 80's when I was driving through for spring break.

Again, I disagree. His whole whole is to rile the other side up. Much like political talk radio, he riles up the lowest common denominator.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the rivalry didn't exist before him. But, over the last 20 years he has elevated the anger level.

His rise in Alabama also exploded the same time that sports talk and the internet exploded. He has done nothing but fuel that fire/anger to the point it is easy to call someone a name behind a key board or a cell phone.

My two cents. You have to include him.

As a bama fan... can't sat I like the documentary. None of us condone that idiot harvey updyke... yet he is allowed to speak as bama nation to people outside the state. I am very dissapointed

I....didn't get that either. Why tarninsh the Bama Nation by harping on that stooge???

I'll tell you why, because it was national news. You can't gloss over it. BUT, they probably didn't have to spend as much time on it.

If it were my show. I would have played the calls to Finebaums show. I would have let the idiot tell his kids names and then say the trees were going to die. Thats about all I would have mentioned.

But then again, they probably gave him so much time because he is so fanatical. A lot of Gump/AU fans are fanatical. Not to that extent though.

And not one mention that both teams draw more for a spring game than most programs can a regular season game? Nope, let's just show the radical fringe that supports ESPN's preconcieved notions.

I agree. It's very impressive, but it also goes to show the fanaticism of each fan base. Both teams pack in 90,000 plus people to watch a practice. Let me repeat, a practice. Same thing when UK packs Rupp for midnight madness. It's just a practice. A worn out line, but true, fan is short for fanatic.

Preconceived notion? Am I wrong or did Harvey Updyke not get so mad that he turned into a tree vigilante? That's not a preconceived notion. That's a fact. How do I know about? It was on national news. How do I know his kids names? It was on national news. No, you have to mention it.

How about Eric Ramsey?

It would have been nice to include the Pat Dye "60 Minutes" interview.

Wait. Nevermind.

I did notice he went the old "everybody does it. That makes it okay" route.

He was actually taking up for bama buying Jelks.

Right. I thought it was curious that ESPN failed to mention that the University of Auburn paid Jelks in reaction to the Ramsey scandal that forced Dye to tap out.

It was not the university of Auburn numbnuts.

I'm not gonna explain it though.

Does not change the fact bama bought and paid for Jelks just like they have half their team since the 1920's.
