Don't feel alone. Louisiana is almost as bad. And West Memphis, Arkansas roads look like Mogadeshu.

Mississippi also has 4 lane highways pristine and smooth as a baby's bottom going absolutely nowhere. We already have Nissan and Toyota here. We missed out on being the Michigan of the south by not landing the Hyundai plant several years ago that went to Alabama because of lack of infrastructure. Well we have it now. It may not lead anywhere but when the companies come this time it won't be about roads.

South Carolina, Mississippi and Kentucky Big 3 for awesome roads!

Not a fan of hers at all, but she was the only commissioner to actually oppose the interest rate swaps. The swaps were negotiated by Democrat Larry Langford.

who sent the county into bankruptcy by building a sewer out to nowhere. The reason for this was that housing developers wanted to develop the land, so the county built sewers on the taxpayer's dime. The developers donated to all of the commissioners' campaigns.
The sewer extension was chump change compared to the rest of the project and was certainly not the cause of the bankruptcy.

we are still trying to get out of the mess made by Republicans in 2003-2004.
No, two republicans and three democrats were responsible for that, including democrat Chris McNair who went to prison for the level of his criminal involvement.
Basically, you're an idiot.

Wow. How exactly do 3 Democrats sit on a 5-member commission with 3 Republicans? White, Collins and Buckelew made up the controlling majority of the County Commission and all 3 are Republicans.
By the way, Mr. Simian, I never once said that Democrats were not involved in the swaps or the subsequent prosecutions. They were. I pointed out that a previous post said that Democrats control Jefferson County and they simply do not. They didn't when the sewer financing was being negotiated.
Langford is a disgrace. Chris McNair is a disgrace. So are White, Buckelew and Collins. I know that she was opposed to the swaps. But she also presided over the crap that happened as commission president.
With all due respect,
An idiot.

Anybody from Mississippi bitching about roads is a comic joke. Your shite hole state has never seen a road grader much less bought one. The most unlevel roads on the fricking planet and you guys invented the pot hole.

I seem to remember a certain Texan saying that, "Texas is Mississippi with better roads."
I may or not be an idiot, but I know enough to know that's an insult to both states.

The four that agreed to the interest rate swaps that bankrupted the county were two Republicans and two Democrats. It was not a party vote, and the lone voice of reason, the commission president to whom you're assigning fault, criticized them openly for engaging in financial dealings that none of them were qualified to evaluate.
You're forgetting Jeff Germany, btw. He was also instrumental in the sewer debacle, although he wasn't part of the rate swaps because he was under federal indictment and Langford won his council seat.
Five of the six commissioners I mentioned received federal convictions. Additionally, TWO former state democratic party chairs (LaPierre, and Blount) went to prison over the sewer.
There is far too much wrong here to lay blame on a political party. Almost every person involved, from commissioners to contractors, is now a convicted felon. Collins was my representative on the commission, and the ONLY thing I think she ever did that was worthwile as a commissioner was not being a criminal. Pretty sad.
