Coach Dye was Auburn football. Without Dye, Auburn would be at the bottom of the SEC.

Hell of a coach and man. He will be missed. He always fielded great teams with great character. Things changed when he left unfortunately.

“I’ve known and respected Pat Dye for many years, and he always represented college football with tremendous class and integrity,” Saban said in a release. “He was an outstanding teacher and coach who affected our game in many significant ways. We are saddened to hear of his passing and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, co-workers and all of the players he had such a positive impact on throughout his distinguished career.”

First image when I think of Coach: that short sleeve white shirt, tie, Auburn script hat, maybe a little dip and walking the sidelines like he knew everyone’s job and knew what was expected of everyone.

One of the remaining true legends. Brought Auburn to new heights. Will be missed. The 89 Iron Bowl speech hits the feels.

He was even more real in private life. My FIL and he were real close and we hunted and fished his lake and farm, rode his horses with him and sat around a fire he would build @ night and he and my great FIL (WWII vet) would entertain with stories. The old south, the SEC and Alabama/Georgia lost a gift. RIP Coach and thanks for the memories.

A little levity regarding Coach. Acquaintance of mine got to go to his place (as the story goes). A little boat came straight across the lake and this man got out of the boat, said “hey boys” to them, walked in the house and asked them “do y’all want a snow cone?” Realizing who he was they said “yes sir”. Coach grabs three glasses and fills them with ice and bourbon. Spent hours with them just being a normal guy and was kind enough to let them enjoy their time with him and talk old stories and football. After they finished it was late/dark and he goes back to his little John boat. It was dark and all you could see was the light from the boat. It “zig zagged back to the other side”. The next day he was back and went hunting. Was completely welcoming and enjoyed their company as much as they enjoyed his. They were Alabama alums and made a friend in Coach.

It's incredible how many different people have stories like that about Dye.

He loved people and he loved talking ball. He'll really be missed.

This is such a big loss for everyone. Not many of the old school coaches left. I thought he was in relatively good shape, until I heard he was hospitalized a few weeks ago.

Being an Alabama fan, I can't truthfully say that I always liked Coach Dye but I always respected his coaching ability and the love and dedication he felt towards the Auburn program. It wasn't until I matured some that I could appreciate him for the Southern gentleman that he was. Condolences to the Auburn family.
