Terrible news. Respected the hell out of him at State. He was great.
Far too young.

Awww man I hate to hear that. It was fun watching him with Dak. His uncle use to post here to back in that run at State.

He only played football his senior season in HS if I recall correctly. He was a basketball player and was a two sports player at State. Mullen recruited him as a WR because he was taller than anyone else on the field. He never had the “hands” to play receiver. He worked hard at it though and made some awesome catches in the 2014 season.

Terrible news to hear. I remember about 3 years ago we were chilling outside a gas station at about 4 am waiting it for it to open up. De'runnya pulled up and decided to wait around with us. Was a really chill dude and was definitely a fan of his after meeting him. Thoughts to his family and friends.

Damn. I just saw this on the SECN bottom line. RIP. He was one those guys I would always think of when people would make the “favorite opposing player” threads.

I knew Bear personally. While I am deeply deeply saddened, I can’t say I was surprised when I got the text. He really was a great guy, just had bad surroundings. I hope his life can serve as a lesson and hopefully save a couple lives in the future. He made multiple attempts to change his life(even went back to school a couple years ago), sadly, his time ran out too soon.
Off the field Bear was a personable guy with a personality that gravitated others to him, he was so much more than a football player. On the field, De’Runnya may have been the most talented WR to wear the Maroon and White. When he declared for the draft following his Junior season at State, he had only played football for 4 years(3 at State as well as his senior year in high school). It’s safe to say his best football was ahead of him. 40 time be damned, he had the talent to be a 10-time pro bowler. I often wonder how different his life would be had he stayed for his senior year at State, just gone through drills at the combine, and ran his 40 at MSU’s pro day. Also, because the Rick Ray teams were so bad, most forget that he played for the MSU basketball team his freshman year. Off the charts God-given talent.
It’s a sad sad day for football fans, SEC fans, MSU fans and especially his friends and family. All we can do now is wonder what might’ve been.
RIP Bear, may your soul fly free.

Birmingham strikes again.
Guy was a basket out the field and the court. Help lead Wenonah to multiple basketball championships and a football runner up.

Talented kid. Should've never declared after his Junior season. Probably a terrible take, but you don't just get knocked off minding your business, be it Birmingham or anywhere else. I'd be shocked if this wasn't drug related.
RIP, Bear. He was fun to watch.
