re: Who are players you thought were not used enough every game?
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 7/25/20 at 11:51 am
Because we never have been great at the deep ball, I say most of our TE's in the passing game. With most CB's on the small side, a wide bodied, tall TE should be a guaranteed FD on short yardage.
1980 Bama at UT

Anyone else at the game? Bama won 27-0, TN QB Alatorre was mvp for Bama. Highlight of the game was halftime in the pouring rain, CDB performed "In America" and Legend of Wooley Swamp." Vols had Hancock and Miller at WR and no QB to get the ball to them.
re: Legendary Tennessee football player, coach Johnny Majors dies
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 6/3/20 at 5:17 pm
My uncle played with Johnny in high school. When I talked to coach Majors in 2010 I told him I grew up in middle Tennessee but was a life long MSU fan. He said, "that's all right, I coached there before I went to Arkansas and Iowa State. MSU is a great school with a beautiful campus." Even if you aren't a UT fan, you should read Johnny's book "You Can Go Home Again." There are some memorable stories of Johnny growing up in Lynchburg, a tiny farming community and home of Jack Daniel Distillery and professional fisherman Bill Dance.
RIP Al Kaline

My Dad's favorite player for his Detroit Tigers. From the stories I heard over the years, Kaline sounded like Jake Mangum to me. Good hitter, played hard and a class act on & off the field.
re: Give me a better wtf moment for your team..it doesn't have to be college

Oilers lack of offense & defense in 2nd half against the Bills. Mega Meltdown. QB Frank Reich said Christ helped him win that playoff game. Maybe so, but the Oilers defense helped the Bills just as much.

re: MSU basketball.

Everyone has their own opinion. I have followed MSU sports since the 80's and Coach Williams is the best coach I have seen at State. He KNOWS basketball and I think he did a better job of masking our weaknesses and playing to our strengths better than anyone else we have had.
re: Nashville Ranters, y’all alright?
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 3/3/20 at 5:59 pm
Didn't get the usual warning this time. The meteorologist that I spoke to said it was like the rain enveloped the nasty stuff, so the radar didn't show it to be as severe as it was. The path was fairly tight in Nashville but it broadened and did some major damage in Mt Juliet and East of there.
re: Question for Kentucky fans

UK blue is not the same as Carolina blue. When I was growing up I always heard God loved the TarHeels, that's why he made the sky Carolina blue. UK blue is closer to Duke blue than UNC blue.
re: Do you get any crap wearing your fav teams apparel in a rivals town?
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 2/12/20 at 4:28 pm
Wasn't in Oxford but one Summer I took a trip to Maine to see a friend. One night on the town a Rebel rounded the corner and saw my MSU shirt. She was like "oh, good grief" ??. I told her the difference between her and I is that I can tolerate fans of other schools as long as they are acting civil, not vandalizing my vehicle or insulting my wife. But I have seen many Rebel fans like her just get bent out of shape because someone is wearing MSU clothing.
Pre-Shot Clock Era

Was trying to remember the halftime and final score of the MSU-UK basketball game when MSU held the ball for what seemed like an eternity, trying to keep it close.

Boston Bruins hockey is must see TV for me.
re: Who’s your personal favorite player for your team all time
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 12/17/19 at 5:09 pm
Have to select offense and defense. Barrin Simpson LB, led CFL in tackles 3 yrs in a row. Keffer McGee RB. Both of them were leaders and outstanding men on and off the field.
re: To really appreciate the Egg Bowl, you have to look at the final drive in whole
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 11/29/19 at 5:51 pm
I enjoyed SportsTalk Mississippi's pregame interview with John Bond. The host asked him why sometimes in the Egg Bowl can the team that should win on paper not win. John replied, "because when these two teams play each other, things that you have no way of predicting will happen, things you might not see happen in another game." He nailed that one.
re: Would Freddie Kitchens be considered a good coaching candidate for Arkansas or MSU?
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 10/29/19 at 5:09 pm
I'll pass. One of my favorite MSU memories was seeing our win @ bama in '97. We had 5 sacks and Freddie would pick himself up off of the turf and hold his arm and shoulder while he looked over at the sidelines pleading for a substitution.
re: LSU -19 vs. State?

Urban Meyer....I think he has Atlas Moving Co. on speed dial. He's already used family and health for excuses to depart a program. What will the next one be?
re: Kylin Hill leads the country in plays of 10+ yards

Reminds me of a reporter telling Jerious Norwood his lower legs looked skinny enough to snap. Jerious replied, "you can't break what you can't catch."
re: MSU fans: miss Mullen yet?
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 9/15/19 at 8:52 pm
This post exposes op's level of intelligence. But to answer your question, no, I was never a fan of mediocre mullen. He lost more than his share of winnable games and underachieved in my opinion. The academic issues aren't the current coach's fault. And with the suspensions and injuries, I wasn't expecting us to beat K State who finally has a very good coach that will challenge and motivate his players.
re: State... If Stevens is out, are you comfortable with the True Freshman after this weekend
Posted by KMcGee21MSU on 9/15/19 at 8:43 pm
Comfortable with Shrader. But he doesn't play defense.
