Missed one, had another one blocked.

Other than that, basically a lot of lengthy drives that stalled outside of FG range.

The Wrecking Crew

One missed field goal, one blocked field goal, and many stops around the 35 yard line.

Rice only got inside the red zone twice. Missed a FG and made one. The TD pass was a blown assignment when the DB bit hard on a pump fake.

They missed one short field goal, but in general, they would start their drive off at the 20 yard line go about 20-30 yards each drive and then stall and punt.

But you have to think teams with better offenses like Auburn won't do the same, they will actually finish drives

Duh.

aTm has a terrible defense and will probably lose 4 games. Again.

ETA: Next year, though. I think they'll be very good next year.

We started people that wouldn't normally start. This game was a glorified scrimmage. But clearly, yes, we can't do that against any SEC teams going forward.

You also have to think that when the starting MLB (and not the true fish who played against Rice) returns, the defense should improve.

Actually all 3 of the starting LB's were out for the Rice game. 2 of the 3 will be back for Arkie, most importantly Mastro though. He is the QB of the defense and the big boy that can plug the gap in the middle.

As for the betting I don't like to bet on games but A&M -28 against SMU is damn near free money. SMU has a horrific team that can't stop the pass and has a completely inept offense. That means lots of short drives and no one that can match up with the athletic A&M WR's. I would expect something similar to the Baylor/SMU game that was 45-0 and would have been worse if Petty hadn't gotten hurt, that game was 24-0 in the 1st Quarter. A&M's offense is easily 3 deep and will continue to pour on points.

Even North Texas covered a 28 point spread on SMU in their other game with a 43-6 win and North Texas is horrible, especially on offense.

Only stat listed that matters. That is not good D. You will never get off the field giving up 5+ yards per play.

Well, last year we gave up 31 points to Rice. This year we gave up 10, despite having an offense that wasn't really clicking.

But the defense is the same. #RantMath

Frick A&M and I did not see the game, but if Rice ran that many plays the yardage given is not alarming. Actually allowing just 10 points is fairly solid.
