The outside is gonna be pretty generic, in my opinion. Like an IKEA or a Super Wal-Mart. They incorporated the Birmingham name in the facade, much like how Atlanta is in the entrance to Philips Arena.
(a piss poor display of plagiarism, if you ask me)

After spending a month at children's with my youngest son, I hope to god they don't offer up their parking deck for games. It was bad enough then without games...

I've lived in Bham my entire life. I grew up going to Barons games at Rickwood Field with my dad. I take my son and his baseball buddies to the Rickwood Classic every year. We also go to the SEC tourney every year along with numerous Barons home games at the Met.
Downtown Birmingham is a shithole. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. The park downtown won't have much parking not to mention no RV parking. Nothing in walking distance will be safe to get to after dark.
In a perfect world, I would have loved to have seen Bham reinvest in Rickwood Field and bring the Barons truly back home. My family is from the Central Park area and I love going back down there.

Regions altered the original plans and turned the field so the children in the hospital rooms would have a better vantage point...

This makes way too much sense for the so called leaders in Bham. More money to be siphoned off an a new project.

No, not really. Rickwood is one of the oldest baseball stadiums in the United States. You couldn't bring it up to any sort of modern standards without basically tearing it down and starting over, which defeats the entire point of historic preservation.
The "lets keep this historic structure going instead of building something new" mindset is why we kept pouring money into Legion Field. That worked out great...

I think the MAPS proposal wouldve been great! However, everyone feared a penny raise in sales tax.. If im not mistaken taxes got raised anyway since that referendum.
I wish I couldve voted for that but wasnt old enough

Oh, I remember MAPS well. I voted for it. And yes, taxes have gone up a penny anyway and we have nothing to show for it.
The worst part about it was the opposition group saying that they "had a plan" to do all the same stuff without a new tax increase and that they would reveal it after the vote. After the referendum failed, the leader of the antiMAPS group was asked what their plan was and he responded "our plan is for people to keep their money in their pockets...thats our plan"...

Are you talking about the 1% education tax back in 03 or 04?

I swear this older generation, bless their hearts, have been holding Bham and the State of Alabama behind.. No progression but alot of regress.. Finally glad to see a new era of folks now that have positive outlooks for the area. If Maps wouldve passed Bham would be hosting NCAA first/second & third/fourth rounds, SECT, SECCG's, conventions, etc.. The entertainment district would probably be doubled if not tripled in size by now. Hotels would be plentiful and public transit would be 100x's better than now.. But it's the people who have held Bham up since the Delta Hub thing..

It was 1998, 1¢ sales tax increase for bham project development

Are they even talking about moving it?
Posted on 3/25/13 at 11:09 am to MsGarrison
The SECT should be moved to Minute Maid Park so that the baseball fans in Houston will finally have good baseball to look forward to.
Actually, I used to think it should stay in Hoover, but now I don't really care. As long as they don't make the mistake of trying to play it in Metairie. If NOLA had a downtown baseball stadium, that would be the shite, though.

Not as of now.. But the writing is on the wall.. The Hoover Met is now a city facility. Regions Bank pulled it's name off if it and $$$. The Barons no longer play there either.. The facility will not make much money for it to stay on par to host the SECTourney.. I can see Hoover giving the Tourney up or the SEC moving it due to the stadium not being in a good condition to host.

Ever thought the "older generation" just might know a little more about what is really going on than you junior? Start off and read up on what happened with the sewer fiasco, then read up on a few more of Bham's school projects and follow the money trail. Visionland was a great idea till the bank note came due and money dissapeared and several cities are still on the hook for money. "Lyin Larry" took a project that cost over 100 MILLION dollars and it sold for around 4 million and after reading your post:
"I think the MAPS proposal wouldve been great!.....I wish I couldve voted for that but wasnt old enough"
That tells us all we need to know about you so run along and let the adults have a conversation.
