I want to see it at Zephyrs park in Nola or at the Braves place in Jackson, MS. Third choice would be Gwinett, GA or Memphis, TN for the fourth choice. F Bham

Ever thought the "older generation" just might know a little more about what is really going on than you junior? Start off and read up on what happened with the sewer fiasco, then read up on a few more of Bham's school projects and follow the money trail. Visionland was a great idea till the bank note came due and money dissapeared and several cities are still on the hook for money. "Lyin Larry" took a project that cost over 100 MILLION dollars and it sold for around 4 million and after reading your post: "I think the MAPS proposal wouldve been great!.....I wish I couldve voted for that but wasnt old enough" That tells us all we need to know about you so run along and let the adults have a conversation.
No offense plutonium but he does have a point in this one area and especially with the MAPS vote. Birmingham does deserves a lot of the distrust from area residents. On the other hand, the outright venom from the naysayers for any and every attempt the city tries to implement to improve itself is ridiculously out of whack and way disproportionate to what is deserved.
There is no way to sugarcoat the county's bungling of the sewer project. However, MAPS pre-dated that and was relatively speaking a very small risk (1 cent county sales tax) that would have funded a multi purpose "dome" facility and several other projects. It was estimated that the new tax would have cost the average family of 4 a whopping $10 extra per month. That's for a family of 4 too. Oklahoma City passed an almost identical MAPS program the exact same year in 1998 and built both the Ford Center and Bricktown from the proceeds. That resulted in them eventually luring an NBA franchise to one of the facilities while Bricktown became the permanent home of the College Softball World Series not to mention the occasional home of the Big 12 baseball tournament. I'm as conservative as most people in this state but I'm not against each and every last proposal that comes along like you and many others are. No offense, but you guys seem to be against these types of projects simply out of nothing more than spite. You may have serious and legitimate concerns but that's the perception you and others with the anti-Birmingham attitude give off. The MAPS program wasn't a big gamble and supporting the project made a lot of sense but the naysayers killed off a great idea just for spite.

Birmingham has a lot of fundamental issues that need to be addressed before it can go forward.

I can't believe no one commented on the field being turned so sick children could watch the baseball games from their hospital beds....With all the negative shite that dominates the news cycle...I think that is fricking awesome...

Thousands of ole miss, state, Tennessee alums with a lot of Alabama and Arkansas alums as well. It's like how ATL has no SEC ties
You do realize Oxford is about the same length of drive from memphis as Athens is to Atlanta

I literally think that is absolute B.S.
If you are the architect on that project, the way its facing now is 100% the way you would orient the field, for the aesthetics of it from the stands.
I feel like someone is pushing that nonsense for P.R.

The original plan was for the outfield to be facing toward the financial district.. But was moved so the kids at CH could be able to view the stadium from their rooms.
Anyway, I think it's great to have the stadium downtown and railroad park. Those two developments have spurred a revitalization of that area.. I remember the southside be being bland now it's coming to life with new condos and developments.. Word around the scuttlebutt is that Alabama Power has big plans for an area close to the stadium and park.
For all the Bham nega's stay in your suburbs.. Things will get done without you

I think you'd want to skyline to be straight away center field not behind third baseline...
I heard this from a Children's employee...tifwiw...

The main reason I wonder if this is just a P.R. statement is that B&A Warehouse refused to sell their lot, and the ballpark site had to be adjusted around it. It now will sit just beyond the third base line.

I don't think they made a statement about it. Like I said I heard this word of mouth...
Edit: P.R. move or not it's still awesome...

I thought I read somewhere that they were going to turn a strip next to B&A into a Negro League Hall of Fame/Museum

Since we've been discussing it, I'm actually curious now how the rearranged site will work with the path of the sun. There are directional standards for ballfields, which is why we call left handed pitchers "southpaws"...

I think it should be setting between the third base dugout and left field foul pole in the summer months...

No offense taken and MAPS was a great idea however the problem is all you need to do is look at how visionland and the sewer fiasco turned out and you would have gotten the same result with MAPS. Ask anyone that does business with the city or bids on any of their projects how it works, been there and done that but walked away.
BTW: Nobody is stopping private investors from investing their money inside the city on anything.
