quote:Well, hopefully it won't come to either because of crime but if you have been to any games at Hoover, it is largely supported by the community. Afternoon games probably have as many locals as there are fans from opposing teams. You have whole little leagues teams and all kinds of other locals show up in droves. Won't happen in either Birmingham or Memphis. But if it came down to the two, Memphis would double Birmingham's bid. Plus, it is way more Central now with A&M and Missouri are in the conference. They weren't in the discussion the last time the contract was negotiated.
Why would it be in memphis? Not happening.. Memphis is worst than Bham when it comes to crime, plus its not a central location.. And the stadium might hold more but it will not draw a large crowd..

Does anyone know if UAB has any plans to use the stadium for games? Might be another revenue stream in addition to the city seems to be going hard after Div-II Sporting Events. I believe the Winter Games at Fair Park were very successful
Garrison, I haven't been downtown to see the changes yet. I'm waiting for everything to be completed but based on the responses in this thread, I may take time to ride thru the area just to see how things are progressing

They'll play home games there when the Barons aren't playing. The away locker rooms are green and gold.

The game really should be moved to a city that has something to offer. Memphis, Nashville, Nola, etc.

I mentioned three cities. This isn't about wanting everything in Nola. It's about a better venue and a city more people would like to travel to. I can eat at California Pizza Kitchen in BR, I don't need to travel to Hoover to do it.

Yawn if you are coming for pizza than you need to stay in BR.

EXACTLY...mrs. garrison just does not get it ! Central AL is NOT the center of the universe, there are many other desirable place/venues to visit...OFTEN times, change can be a good thing !

Why you're so hellbent on having this game played in Hoover is beyond me. You probably have the most abysmal baseball program in the entire league.

I am always big on tradition, however I would like the SEC tournament on some type of rotation just to see other places

Well this statement is equally as stupid.

Enjoy the new park and packing heat.....
When they do the most dangerous places in the U.S. I've never seen Birmingham in the top 10. Hell STL and KCMO are usually in the Top 10-15. About 3yrs ago marine got MUGGED in downtown STL about a block from Busch Stadium and that don't stop people from going to Cardinals games. St. Louis is waaaaay worse than Birmingham,AL.

The only thing this Aggie fan will miss about the Big XII is the baseball tournament in OKC. Having the tournament at a downtown ballpark with hotels in walking distance simply can't be beat.
There is one constituency that really loves this configuration that no one is talking about--the coaches. The Big XII coaches absolutely love having their tournament someplace where they don't have to schlep the team around on a bus--they simply tell the players when to report to the ballpark and when the curfew is. The rest of the time, the players are on their own.
I've only flown through Memphis as a adult, but just from looking on Google, Memphis seems to have the kind of set up I'm talking about. Don't know if the new Birmingham park will be anything like that, but a ballpark out in the sticks like Hoover just isn't the best setup.
