Well, if you want to move the SEC baseball tourney downtown, then that's kind of important.
By surrounding areas I meant the suburbs and not people coming from College Station, Columbia, or other areas outside the state of Alabama who have no preconceived notions and are often very complimentary following visits

See thats your problem.. Dont listen to all those nay-sayers.. Go downtown for yourself and experience it.. I guarantee you'll have a different outlook

I wonder if there could be a way to play games at both venues...Seems like with league expansion and increased games, (with more expansion on the horizon) multiple venues in close proximity could be viable? Hell, play a couple at Rickwood...

Gene Hallman on bham sports talk said the seating capacity at the new Bham ballpark would keep it out of consideration for the SEC baseball tourney. I think he should know so Garrison this fricks your opinion 100%

I had a blast at the game last night. There were a few kinks to work out but that's understandable, considering the stadium is still under construction. The biggest issue was concession lines but that is an easy remedy. (The tap lines weren't functioning properly)
The stadium has great site lines 360% around, really enjoyed the baseball itself. Can't wait to go back...After being inside I think Regions Park could handle the SEC championship crowd wise.
Here are a few shots from opening night...Barons won 9-5...
As far as the 'City of Birmingham' here's some material for you nay sayers and shite talkers....
More great press...LA times...

I'm not in favor of it being in bama country but according to LSU's CPM, the HC's in the league love it being held in Hoover. Not sure why, as the park itself is not representative of most of the league's parks, as in outfield dimensions. But if CPM likes it, that makes it easier to live with. To me, rotating it round the league or nearby league cities makes it more interesting for the fans, each yr a new ball park experience, but as any move would have to be approved by the bama league office...................................ain't happening.

Glad you had a great time, the concession lines wont be near as long the next time you go unless they hand out more free tickets.

Yep and I had someone offer me "free" tickets, 10 as a matter of fact, corporate give a ways. I bet I have been to 50 games over the years and even went to them during the Rickwood years and have NEVER paid to get into a game. In the early 80's they had .25 beer night and would only sell you 4 at a time and while they were pouring you would drink two so you could carry the other two back to your seat and I would always take a bunch of my buddies but I will say Barons baseball tickets are harder to get for free than UAB football tickets.
