Lane hasn’t seemed to be struggling with putting together solid high level teams in Oxford year to year.
solid high level team isnt the same as a championship contender.

Being a top 10-15 or even in the 5-10 range is still different than being in the top 5 in terms of having a chance.

The 12 team playoff era has too small
A sample size to see how much just getting into it will
Give teams a chance but so far the same old teams (Ohio state) have won it all.

Yes you have to get in to have a chance but we’ll see how far those top 10-15 ish level teams do in coming years when they do get in

I am pretty sure that Ole Miss is not winning the NC this season. Gonna be 11-1 which is great, but I cannot see that squad winning a SF match or the championship game. Just my opinion...

There are reasons that LSU, even in a down year, is considered a top 5-7 head coaching position and Ole Miss is not. There are obvious reasons that LSU has won three national titles in the last 22 seasons and Ole Miss has won nothing since the early 1960s.

Not really.

2021 13th
2022 13th
2023 9th
2024 3rd
2025 5th

Im not convinced the 2024 or 2025 class are making that much of an impact yet.

Their transfers are though.

Oregon has elite high school but your overall points are true.

One factor that’s not usually considered is the transfers out. The more blue chip high school you have, the more likely that you will have guys leave and you waste that resource. Playing time is limited

The new trend to look out for is teams purposely recruiting project/developmental 3* players with good character and willingness to develop and wait their turn. Which would lead to top 20ish recruiting classes being good enough to win if they’re filled with the right guys

Now for your next exercise....tell me how many games those teams with inflated recruiting rankings won over the past 5 years vs. Ole Miss. Then try and convince everyone that those stats matter. Also....thrown AU in there too...just for fun.

Recruiting rankings only matter if you have a program like Bama and GA where they can sign them, deprogram them, and find a way to unlock the potential they have. If you can't do this....you just got big, tall, fast athletes who cant play football or win games.

Good stuff there.

One thing people must factor in is that you cant sit 4 star HS guys multiple years as depth any more.

You gotta get them in the games or they will leave for sure.

And a former 4 star who was tired of being a backup at Bama after a year and seeing he will be a backup again his Sophmore year.....is out.

He gone for real.

He can get his money and start now at a different program.

And you know what, he is one year older and stronger compared to this years HS crop.

Parity is here my friends.

Oregon is kinda special in that they have a bottomless money machine called Nike.

He’s won 10 games 4 out of the last 5 years with this model. Is a good year literally ONLY if you win a natty in your eyes?

Kiffin has plenty of money. (Not-Leaving).

Geographically, He is in Utopia. (Not-Leaving).

Kiffin is wildly successful at Ole Spew. (Not-Leaving).

2024 was a legit championship team that failed due to coaching. I agree that we won’t ever put it together as much as LSU, but championship windows are small for most programs. Ole Miss may have a 1 out of 12-15 year shot at winning a natty under new NIL formats. I’d say LSU is maybe 1 every 6-7.

The big thing is that with the increased pressure, will Lane be able to actually put it all together? And the second question is whether he’ll stay long enough before he chases the next shiny object.

I’d send my kid to A&M before I consider Ole piss. If my child picked that school then I would disown him immediately.

You seem like a wonderful parent.

We both know your kid won't have the grades for a&m.

Luckily, our admissions standards are super easy to get past thanks to a court ruling years ago.

Alas, your kid probably won't meet them either.

Off to community college. After that he can attend a university.

You can pay high schoolers or you can pay Trinidad. Those are good high schoolers ranking considering how portal heavy we are.

Last year was supposed to be the year, this year we barely had any talent at all and here we are.

Nothing but three stars. Quarterback unheard of, running back three star, no outstanding wide receivers, no outstanding defensive studs, offensive line was the biggest question mark and still is.

And yet you fired your coach with a higher rated portal class than us, and all these back-to-back top five recruiting classes, tell me again why he would want to go to LSU? Fired your coach after winning a national championship, fired your coach mid season... Yikes.

Lane would be crazy to leave.

He totally shite the bed last year and the Ole Miss fans still believed in him.

He's burning a lot of goodwill but if he stays and wins a playoff game our fans will remain 100% behind him.

LSU would have fired him by now.

See OSU last year vs Clemson. Clemson got a ton of HS 4 stars getting their asses kicked by transfers on teams that almost no HS 4 stars.

Well that's wrong. Ohio State has had top 4-5 HS classes the last several years. Their transfer classes ranked 73, 23, 9, and 29.

Yes, exactly.

They used a 9th ranked portal class to ice the cake.

This year they are using a top 25 portal class to plug holes.

Clemson is in the abyss.
