round - so self serving! I guess if he had to walk a mile in their shoes he might think different.

Saban said the enticement of improving one's draft stock at the Combine is one of the biggest reasons why on-the-fence players choose to leave a year of eligibility on the table.

"You're going to go to the Combine and shoot up the draft charts, which never really ever happens, either," Saban said. "More guys go down at the Combine than go up because they're not as fast and they don't have a very good feel in comparison to all the other competition in the draft at their position.

"When they come to that realization, it's too late."

The NFL invited 355 players to this year's Combine. In the 2013 NFL Draft, 254 players were selected.

A record 98 underclassmen declared for this year's draft, up from 73 in 2013. Four came from Alabama, as Cyrus Kouandjio, HaHa Clinton-Dix, Jeoffrey Pagan and Vinnie Sunseri entered their names into the fray. Though Adrian Hubbard had a year of eligibility remaining, he was not counted on the list because he graduated.

Only Kouandjio and Clinton-Dix were projected as first-round picks. Saban has said multiple times that he only fully endorses a player's decision if they're likely to be first-round picks.

"The way it's going right now, I don't think the NFL really wants all these guys coming out for the draft," Saban said. "They know they can develop better in college if they stay and play more unless they're going to be high draft picks. It's difficult for them to develop players with the way they practice now. If a player's not a high pick, it's a lot more difficult for them to develop as an NFL player.

"I just think systematically we need to do something."

Jim Tressel endorsed the same system.

I see no issue with it.

You know what is funny about trying to get Juniors who would be drafted but aren't first round picks to stay for their senior years?

THEY HAVE A HIGHER RISK FOR INJURY AND WILL HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT!!!

Saban wants to get rid of the HUNH because of injury but wants guys who could be getting paid to play on Sundays to come back for another year to play for him where they get paid nothing and if they get hurt, they could be finished. But, hey, Saban had them for another year.

But, he cares about injuries.

If he really cared about injuries, he would not schedule Georgia State and he would encourage guys to go pro if they had a chance of making a roster in the NFL.

this has literally always been his stance.

quote:

so self serving

How so? It is self serving for the team/coach and beneficial to the player. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Mid round projections get to come back and hone their skills another year and have a chance at making more money the following year. So he's advising that they become a better football player and give themselves a chance at more money. What a selfish bastard. If he only cared about Alabama, he wouldn't advise anyone to go pro early and would try to pitch all his guys one more yeat. He doesn't do that

Shhhh. Some of our fans only want to point out every negative thing they find about him. They've never moved on like the rest of us nor have they been able to appreciate what he did while here.

Really think AU beating him again this past year has affected him and he is willing to grasp at any straw to help himself at this point.

Yeah, and he also said that Louisiana guys should stay in state because it was better for them and their family and their future. That was his big recruiting push. Then, he goes to Alabama and tells Louisiana guys that it is better for them to go to Alabama.

He says whatever he can say to benefit himself regardless of what the facts are.

That is the definition of a liar, by the way.

he has always said he only endorses sure fire 1st rounders tog o early, so its not like this is news. Second, he is 100% right about juniors who need more work screwing themselves over on eligibility because they get invited to the combine and think they will get drafted but dont. Coming out early does not end well for the vast majority of people, and they would be better off staying and getting their degrees, working on technique and putting together more good film. I realize your tiny little brain is pre-programmed to automatically try anythin you can into a petty shot at saban because you are still hung up on him and wish he was your coach, but this is the wrong one to go with.
