They had two 9 win seasons under Jones and one losing season. They couldn’t wait any longer so he got fired. Jones had them turning into a competitive somewhat respectable program. Pruitt is another story.

For Butch, I would have given him one more season. Back to back losing seasons for any program should be enough to fire.

I remember posting on this board here, and the consensus after his second 9 win season was that he was a terrible coach.

Somewhere like Arkansas State is more where he belongs.

Your present HC may very well prove just as prophetic.

And I'm guessing one in particular still keeps Georgia fans waking up in a cold sweat?

Yea, that nasty nick chubb injury in 2015.

That's horseshite. If he doesn't play Guarantano after he gets injured in 2018, Ga St doesn't happen, BYU doesn't happen, and he's still here. Maybe we lose a couple games that we won in 2019, but we beat Auburn and probably Arkansas too if we have Shrout as the guy. In a non covid year we go at least 8-5 with Bailey starting from jump. They'd still be gargling his balls on VN talking about "CORNBREAD" and "aighT."

Pruitt is out at Tennessee mainly because he was stupid enough to take the ball out of no.3s hands to give it to no.2 and the stupidity of that decision will be plain to see when Gray has about 1700 AP yards and 25 TDs next season and Guarantano gets benched for good after 3 games at Wazzu.

You are correct, but you are talking more on field decisions. My post was more related to behind the scenes stuff within the AD, and came directly from someone that was in the AD. That stuff was adding up and adding up fast. His incompetence was glaring to everyone in there, thus the point made that it didn't matter who he went after and/or got in recruiting. He was going to frick it up. Your point about not benching 2 and/or giving 3 the ball, on top of meddling in the playcalling on both sides of the ball was the icing on the cake.

Yeah it would have been impossible to reach the win total they achieved the year before.

GA State and BYU though.

His 2nd to last season, he cruised to an early frontrunner spot in the SEC east by beating UF and UGA. He then completely squandered that by losing to Vanderbilt and South Carolina to end the season. Dobbs (the primary reason for any success Butch had) and the rest of the seniors graduated. Then his last season was the first time UT had lost 8 games in 110+ years of football, AKA the worst season in history (at that time).

He did not deserve another year. Everyone knew he was a joke and he had no support.

TN is like maybe the fourth or 5th best team in the East.

Y’all need a reality check. This isn’t the 90’s. Building takes time especially considering Ut’s recruiting pool. It’s not like y’all have 5 stars growing on trees like Louisiana and Georgia.

Im telling you he led us to the worst season in school history, a feat which no previous coach in the entire 100+ history of UT football had done. He didn't win the east one time in 5 years despite UF and UGA being very down, and he was 2-3 against Vanderbilt. He lucked into some legacy talent but for the most part his recruiting classes were garbage and they were getting worse every year. He had no future after choking bigly 2 years in a row when we should have been in ATL and he lost any equity he had left. I think you need a reality check.

Great, now it's going to be White Knighting Jones. I'd rather it go back to White Knighting Schiano.

UT needs to fix UT first, the whole thing, chancellor's, dean's, bots, boosters , from the governor's on down.

Then they need to fix the ad.

Which we have all been saying going on a decade now.

We're just waiting for the sequel to Decade of Dysfunction now.

Yeah because you need 5 stars to beat a 6-6 South Carolina and Vanderbilt...
