I think we can all agree that Germy is turning things around based on the 2019 finish, but what does he need keep the faith this year record-wise? Obviously a NY6 bowl would've sufficed, but without that benefit...what is actually the min performance expected.

also-

Will Phat Phil's meddling prevent him from accomplishing this goal? Will the fans know the difference and place blame accordingly or just revert to praying to their Peyton shrines?

Is Pruitt going to roll out yet another version of Jarrett Guarantano? Slim to none.

Our QB isnt that good, he apparently practices his arse off though and the coaches just cant seem to let it go that it hasnt translated to gameday that well. Thats frustrating but they're football coaches and i am not. He will probably be our limiting factor. Our RB's are solid but not tested past the 2 deep. OL should be good for the first time in awhile, defense has improved every year. We lost some contributors from last year but our players seem to be getting closer to being on par athletically atleast with the top players in the SEC for the first time in awhile. Its a weird year with very limited practice and an all SEC schedule. THere is no damn telling whats going to happen to not only us but to everyone this season. Unless we pull an arkansas and go 0-10 i dont think anyone is going to want his head all things considered.

We started so poorly last season that no one remembers we finished 8-5 and we certainly didn’t pad it with OOC opponents. Had we beaten BYU and GA St, that's a 9 to 10 win season. The problem this year is that Covid-19 plus an all conference schedule is likely going to make an improved team look like it regressed. If we had been able to solve our QB problems I’d feel much better about this season but COVID kept Bailey from getting the benefits of being an EE and kept him quarantined through a lot of Fall practices. The team in general has suffered due to Knox County’s contact tracing rules so I don’t expect a polished start.

I feel like we are a solid team but we have been hamstrung on offense and until JG proves that he can stop having cold spells during games I don’t have much faith in the offense despite what should be a great OL and two really good running backs.

ETA: The Fulmer meddling conspiracy is hilarious.

Also regarding QBs...Maurer has been battling a hamstring injury but Shrout has been a pleasant surprise. He has a live arm but was a poor decision maker in games last season but coaches have liked his progression. Even though JG will start, coaches won’t hesitate to bench him. They didn’t last year and he actually started playing a ton better when he didn’t start but instead came off the bench.

Those cold spells come mostly because he holds the ball way too long. The guy has taken more nasty hits than anyone I can recall. So it isn't like he's not paying for the indecision. He needs to pick up blitzes and coverages better and he does not anticipate receivers getting open much less being able to throw them open. The only reason I'm now an expert of what he doesn't do as a QB is that like a bad check he just keeps bouncing back game after game. Great emphasis on the bouncing.

Any school that cares about football as much as UT and puts the resources toward it they do should expect to compete for conference titles and the CFP. If they aren’t doing that within the next 2 years, they have the wrong person leading them.

Guarantano is like the Mike Folty of college football... gets all emo when he starts playing like shite, gets benched, then all of the sudden plays better when everyone counts him out.

I fully expect to beat Vandy and Arkansas... lose to either of them, and folks will be calling for Pruitt’s head.

I also expect to beat SCar and Mizzou. Lose one of those, and people will be disgruntled and some shouting FAHR Pruitt! Lose both, and about double the number will shout FAHR Pruitt!

I further expect to beat Kentucky, because as a VOL fan, that is expected. A loss, however, and fans will argue that Kentucky is a solid team this year with an established coach. Only a few folks on the FAHR Pruitt bus (assuming none of the above were losses).

Auburn & A&M are a toss up ... no one will be upset with a L unless we look like dog shite or blow it at the end with a boneheaded play call.

No one expects us to beat UGA, FL, or Bama. Win any one of those, and any other loss probably doesn’t matter aside from Ark / Vandy. Win two of those 3, go 4-6, and VOLS would be rooting for a Pruitt extension.

Edit: Realisitcally, VOLS would be happy with 6-4. 5-5 a little subpar but okay, below that would be a total disappointment, and 7-3 or above and we will with no question be the next offseason champions.

It's year 3 and the cupboards aren't bare, by a long shot. Pruitt should quickly demonstrate that his football program is better than all the South Carolinas in the SEC right now. With his recruiting he should really get one or two who are favored, as he works his way up the foodchain.

Which is why I say VOLS are realistically happy with 6-4. I believe ESPN only has us favored in 3 or 4 games.

6-7 wins and a better bowl game than before. That's really about it. Would not shock me if that freak turns things around in Knoxville.
