Its a different time/world. South would win the rematch. And SC owns Mizzou.

What the hell is wrong with you?

Butter, salt, and tabasco. Period.

Yankees eat cream of wheat, not grits

And this.

You'd think with the millions of acres of corn in IA, IN, PA, etc., someone would have figured out how to make grits, but somehow it mysteriously eluded them.

Grits can have ham, butter, salt, shrimp, anything savory but anyone who adds sugar or syrup is just making horrible life decisions and I, for one, worry about their future on this Earth.
This. I like fried catfish in my cheese grits. Or Sausage. Or bacon. I've even had fried chicken. you can also throw in some eggs.

I don't question the Alabama gulf coast's ability to produce quality seafood. I just question the average Alabamian's ability to afford much beyond mayonnaise sammiches for supper.

salt and pepper, fool. Goes well with the egg and bits of bacon/sausage. I've never heard of adding sweets to grits until like 3 years ago.

and theres nothing "northern" about grits.

Our seafood is cheap.

You consider oysters a delicacy, for us it's cheap comfort food.

Or you all could vary your diet and try all those foodstuffs prepared in a variety of different ways rather than obsessing over one particular food item and crucifying anyone who isn't a gritsologist.

Crikey, you people are off your rocker. I live in central Texas so theoretically I should like to eat brisket 24/7 but I'm much more likely to be found eating Thai or Vietnamese because that's what sort of food I like. Who gives a flying frick? Does that make me Asian in the way that not eating grits seven days a week makes me Yankee?

Anyone who eats grits with salt and pepper isn't a true southerner or else they are a transplant to the south and have no clue what is going on.

Or, perhaps their family transplanted to the south generations ago and passed down thru the family the northern "salt and pepper" way to eat grits.

Any true southern old timer will tell you that grits should be eaten one way and one way only:

with Butter and Sugar or Syrup. Sweet grits.

You sir, have been lied upon. Sugar on grits? You are fricking with us. As far as syrup goes, you use Karo or Golden Eagle syrup and mix it with soft butter. You then take your homemade biscuit and dip it into the concoction. But you never put syrup on grits. NOW you have been educated from a southerner who comes from a longgggggggggg line of southerners.
