Came across an interesting graphic on r/CFB just now. Graph compares "Weeks in AP Poll" on the X-axis and "Weeks in the Top 5" on the Y-axis and plots the schools as they stack up throughout their history.

Alabama is clearly top dog, but the other 5 teams (yes, Florida too) are nowhere close to them. Hell they are closer to the likes of Arkansas and A&M than to Alabama.

Just food for thought. SEC as a whole represents pretty good on 8 out of the top 25 schools, but only 1 of the top 8.

Needs some wordsmithing, but something like Bama and the Seven Hopefuls.

Yes, that’s the result of playing in a shite conference like the SEC. There’s Bama and everyone else.

Graph is based solely on weeks in the AP.

Would be nice to have a average ranking of wins, conference titles, national titles (poll era), draft picks, first round picks, winning percentage, weeks ranked, weeks ranked #1, a BCS metric, and playoff metric.

Winsipedia has the information. Just would like to see it plotted.

The SEC has 5 of the top 13 schools in wins (Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU and Auburn). No other conference comes close to that (the Big Ten really only has two Michigan and Ohio State as you can not count Nebraska or Penn State, not enough years in the conference).

Also, the SEC is the only conference that has had a National Title winner every decade since 1910.

Finally, most of the SEC teams having winning records in bowls (maybe 1-2 teams do not, but I am not going to look it up right now), while only 1-2 teams in the Big ten have winning bowl records.

So everyone else in the SEC is historically shite?

Well, that's a take I guess.

Re-Evaluating the "BIG 6" of the SEC

Your graph shows that the Big 6 is still the Big 6.

Also interesting to note Clemson being behind Arkansas and A&M. It's hard to have a conversation about blue bloods in the last 5 years without mentioning Dabo's Clemson. But, I foresee Dabo yeeting out of there for the Bama job in a few years, so maybe the return to #3 in the ACC when that happens.

Maybe Big 5 after Top 1. Can't really see how the lower 5 can be in the same category as Bama with these evaluators.

The only place the "Big 6" exists is on this forum.

All I really see in the graph is the separation of blue blood programs from everyone else.

Clemson is the Miami of the 1980s right now. Miami obviously continued to be good/great for a decade+ after that too though.

We will see what happens with Clemson, but historically they are a top 25ish program, same tier as A&M and Arky or so.

Quick google search of phrase you bolded, first link.

Top 25 Blue Bloods

Maybe there is different cut off points for different evaluators. Should we do Navy, Royal, Blue, Sky, Baby Blue. Clemson in the top 15ish, What should I call this grouping to satisfy you?

This is why I was getting so irate when UGA and Cincy were playing and they were tossing around that blue blood moniker.

Thats reserved for the 8 teams in the class of their own.

Nebraska and Texas are playing a cute game, but this chart pretty much says it all.
