Yea that was a big thing I forgot to mention is coaches. We have almost a whole new staff. I'm still shocked that Luke is coach and he was a part of the problem. I just hope he's there to keep them motivated, but you can't tell me the players can't see through that.

I think that's where the downfall starts. Not a player quitting on the field, but when a SR or a key player lets a coach or the rest of the team know that he ain't listening to the staff anymore.
The whole thing decays quickly after that

Ok,first this isn't a troll thread. It's only to get opinions from others. Anyways, do you see the players mailing it in early and not caring, or come out with a chip on their shoulders and try to play spoilers? We do have a decent offense, jury (pun) is still out on the defense. And still most could be waiting for the punishment. I'm just a big football fan and ready to watch some.
So what is y'alls opinion since some have had to deal with problems from the NCAA. Thanks
It will be very, very hard for them to not fold and just mail it in once the first bit of adversity hits.
You've got NCAA issues that may come to a head during the season. That isn't good. It's distracting from both the players and the staff for sure. Having said that, staring down that gun could be a rallying point for a team but I don't see it happening at OM this year for a couple of reasons.
First, you've already self-imposed a post season ban so there's not a lot to play for in that regard.
Second, you've got a lame duck staff. To a man, they're already thinking about where they'll be working come January 2018 and the players know it. Virtually nobody on the sidelines or between the lines is going to put out the extra effort. They're all going to be ready to just get the year over and move on to the future.
See 2012 Arkansas and 2016 Baylor for reference. Both entered the year with an interim HC but intact assistants and pretty solid rosters and yet both spun in.
So, in a nutshell, get ready to bite the pillow.

I appreciate all the real football talk. We have awesome receivers, decent QB, decent line and other decent positions but not depth for this league. We may surprise a few and then lose the easy ones. Just all depends how players react to coaches and NCAA. Rumor, big word, is that the players are getting ready to play an us vs. the world type of season but most don't realize how an L can affect those feelings.

Agree with you both. All it takes is one valuable player or coach to hang his head and the rest say forget it and just go through the motions. I'm not expecting a big year or even for a few years.

Rants view on Ole Miss players
you have some talent, but not a ton of depth. you have new coaches all over the field and a HC who has never been in that role before and was thrust into it in the 11th hour.
I would expect the team to be pretty meh. The real talented guys will be more stat and "good work on film" focused since there is no bowl to look forward to. They'll try to protect and prepare themselves for a football future outside of Oxford. You need to have hit on a couple of diamonds in the rough recruiting wise to have any real success, IMO.
not to mention all the distractions off the field and if the COI rules before the season is fully over, that won't bode well for OM in whatever games remain as most everyone who isn't blinded by support for the Black Bears expects that penalty to be harsh to say the least.

Too many of the SECr and Tr denizens just parrot the prevailing story line without stopping to actually think about the issues. Ole Miss is not a destitute program, looking for anyone from the student section who wants to play football in order to field a team. They remain a SEC school full of paid scholly athletes from well regarded recruitment classes.
They do have a lot of positional question marks, but so do a lot of SEC teams this year. They might have no more question marks than ... say ... LSU or Arkansas. Plus they have a favorable home schedule for games that are potential tossups.
Whoever is interim coach will probably do a decent job, perhaps as good a job as "O" did at LSU and USCw. The complete failure of an interim coach such John Smith (I'm almost positive this uncommon name was an alias) as at Arkansas a few years ago, would be an anomoly. And the new coaches will bust their hinny to make a name for their next job. It is unlikely new coaches will shirk.
I think Ole Miss will be 7-5/8-4 give or take one win. There are an uncommon lot of potentially toss up games this year because of the uncertainties with each SEC team.
Win - Sat, Sep 2 vs South Alabama 5:30 PM
Win - Sat, Sep 9 vs TN-Martin 10:00 AM
Win - Sat, Sep 16 @ California 8:30 PM
Loss - Sat, Sep 30 @ Alabama TBD
Loss - Sat, Oct 7 @ Auburn TBD
Win - Sat, Oct 14 vs Vanderbilt TBD (home game)
Tossup - Sat, Oct 21 vs LSU TBD (home game)
Tossup - Sat, Oct 28 vs Arkansas TBD (home game)
Tossup - Sat, Nov 4 @ Kentucky TBD (away game)
Win - Sat, Nov 11 vs LA-Lafayette TBD
Tossup - Sat, Nov 18 vs Texas A&M TBD (home game)
Loss - Thu, Nov 23 @ MS State 5:30 PM (away game)

I see them trying to come out with the chip on their shoulders but they will eventually mail it in when things don't go their way at some point in the season.

Yea this isn't going to be a slap on the wrist punishment. It's going to be spread over years and then take years after to get any type of depth and coach. And players definitely see it. Along with a coach that should be living out of a suitcase.
Posted on 8/24/17 at 11:12 am to Rebelatheart42
Obviously a LOT rides on what happens on 9/11. If more years of bowl-ban are added then fuhgetaboutit, OMs roster is going to get pillaged and razed by other staffs looking for WRs and skill players. Watch the 30for30 on SMU. Players were getting actively recruited in SMUs own athletic facilities

The ones who got there via legit recruiting will probably be motivated to play hard unless they're mad about not getting the same compnsation the hired guns received. The hired guns looking to go pro after this season should play hard. The hired guns with more eligibility remaining who can transfer out will probably mail it in early.

Yea I also see toss ups with that schedule. Plus egg bowl being away usually goes to that team. Like you said, we have a few skill players but it only takes one to hang his head. The coaches are going to have to stay on top of that 24/7. And I'm not convinced our interim is the one, when he will be looking over his shoulder. If we pull off 7 wins I will call it a decent season. I mean WAOM for a reason. No one should ever think championship until it miraculously happens.

They won't know the result of the 9/11 meeting until probably late October at the earliest. The season may well be over before sanctions are announced.

Honestly I can't name hardly anyone recruited the right way. And the ones who were would probably be starters in juco somewhere. Not the depth for SEC.

Well then we need to start a propaganda campaign and try to get the first foot in the door with their WR corp and Greg Little

You're correct on when they come out, but i have a feeling most know it's not going to be pretty.
Posted on 8/24/17 at 11:28 am to Rebelatheart42
It was stated earlier, there are some talented players there. Problem will be, will they play with the same passion knowing there is nothing to play for and will they respond mentally should they drop a game or two early.
You never know what is going on in an 18-22 year olds head when it comes to sports. A lot have NFL dreams. If there isn't a championship to be won or played for, no bowl, etc. Do they risk chance at the NFL to just play for pride?

I think the timeline says 8-12 weeks for the report.
Season will be over, but looming the entire time. This season might break OM more than future sanctions.

Defense has no depth and teams will run on you and run some more and run more. Ya'll will be able to compete as always on offense and no team should take you lightly. Shea Patterson has lots of potential, but he doesn't have the quarterback whisperer to coach him. I think you guys get revenge on fat burt... A&M lies down and maybe you guys can pull a fast on on vandy... 5-7 or 6-6 season... you could easily go 3-9 too. South Alabama will put up a helluva fight and will be tougher than Cal. Kentucky has a sneaky team this year. they have come a long way and stoops is a good coach.
Posted on 8/24/17 at 11:34 am to NYCAuburn
Exactly! And to the other guy, we will have just a few looking to improve tape for the NFL. Others may play hard just for other teams to take note. The ones who play with heart I believe are ones that don't have a legit future or wanting that scholarship or just to be recognized.
