I keep hearing about how explosive the Ole Miss offense is going to be. I saw last night on the SEC network where OM returns 5 starters on offense off of a 5-7 team. I guess OM fans are really expecting big things from Shea who is 1-2 in his SEC career so far. This is a team that was taken to the woodshed by a 5-7 State team and a 6-6 Vandy team. Let that last sentence sink in. The defense doesn't appear to be much different than last year and we know how that went. Not trying to troll you but what am I missing here?

Well he hasn't lost to South Alabama yet so he's got that going for him.

they have some good big WR targets and a decent to potentially good QB. that makes for big play potential. a good coach can game plan against them and beat them 55-20

considering our starting QB played 3 snaps you could argue that neither has he... and your head coach has never head coached a team to victory... thus your team will go 0-12

He hasn't lost to South Alabama but he lost by 35 to the team that did.

I wouldn't call it potent. Just some nice Wr's and a decent QB. Plus we get our power running back, back. But if he gets over 500 yards thats good for us. We have a ton of question marks on D. Plus hoping the OL can protect.

Bold, Skwatch, bold. I'm pretty sure I made some comment like this last year, and then our HC came out in shorts for the game

I give OM a lot of crap on here. Cuz they deserve it. No doubt.
But once think they have a lot of talent. I do think Shea is very good. He has many weapons. The Oline is talented and may actually have some depth this year which has been their weakness. I don't think the wr or TE are good run blockers. Which may seem trivial but goes a long way to having a good run game. I don't think it's the RBs, it's just the offense is not conducive for a good running attack. But I think the rebels can score on anyone.
The Defense is a question mark. One really good DL here and there but really no depth at all. Huuuuuuuge problem. And it sounds like the secondary is still trying to find a lineup. Not good. And there is at least one very good cb. Again no depth. Linebackers are not even conference USA. No matter what Rebs say about this group, they are still terrible. I don't think the D will be as good as they have been getting TOs. That's been their game. Turnover, short field for O and a quick TD. If the teams they've beaten the last several years just grind the ball on OM, they're are no match. Bama could have easily avoided their two losses just lining up and pounding it. Just be persistent with it and don't be tempted to try and keep up with their tempo. They will be worn down and lose in the 2nd half.
I see the same type team this year. I think they will be motivated and not cash it in. But I can't see that mattering that much. They have an easier schedule. And could cause some trouble. They are not an easy win.

I would not. Patterson went 1-2 against 3 teams with a combined record of 20-19 last year.

I think they've been seriously underestimated. I'd be shocked if OM isn't screwed for the next 5-7 years as a program...but what does that have to do with this year when nobody transferred out? Could be wrong...but that's my take.

History is against Ole Miss. It's going to be worse than last year. I can't remember a team that has so many issues off the field that had a great season. In the late 90s and early 00s, Miami was one of top programs in the country. They got into some trouble and been the same since. Penn State just got back last year after the Sandusky saga. There are more where that came from.

depth is their issue... their roster is built for a 2 LB system. new coach is running different style defense that requires more LBers... that depth was never addressed. They do have a couple of good ones but the rest are 6 foot 220. That don't cut it in the sec. Go look at their roster.

IDGAF as long as they can tackle. Shite I'd take 11 Mike Hiltons in a hearbeat and he is only 190 lbs.

they couldn't tackle last year... you think your LBers are gonna be able to tackle a 6'5 225 QB that runs faster than them. bwahahahahahahahahahahaha

I didn't know Shea played on the Defensive Line too.

Ole Miss will come out with a chip on their shoulder and play hard, then get their asses whipped about 5 times this year because their defense is lacking and they just don't have the depth to compete week in and week out against some of the bigger programs in the SEC. Same ole, same ole...miss. I'm not trying to be a dick or be abrasive, but you asked for my honest opinion and I gave it. Geaux tigers.

quote:exactly what happened to Arkansas with Smiley. And that was with a pre-season top 10 team coming off a 11 win season with a senior qb. Ole miss is a non-top 50 team coming off a 5 win season with a 19 year old QB. Things will get ugly.
It won't be the players who cave and mail it in. Those guys are doing what they've done every summer - practice and sweat and pay the price to get ready to play. They still have the bond of playing for the guys who they have been sweating and suffering with.
The coaches are the ones who have already shifted attention elsewhere. They go to practice, then they have to go face a wife and kids who know that they won't be in Oxford next year. They have to find a realtor from out of town , just trying to keep the rumor mill at a minimum. They have to juggle a mortgage while also trying to line up employment for 2018.
And the kids will get the blame for "quitting" or "mailing it in"
Sucks, but we've all seen it happen
