Ole Miss
South Carolina
SC is a larger school in a more populated state and they not only share their state with another SEC school but also a sizable D1 school in USM (so you can throw that well SC has USC and Clemson in it crap)
That would make logical sense. If there weren't a bunch of old racists all across the south, who just root for Ole Miss, hoping one day the South will rise again.

<-------- SC = home of the original rebels.

Far more national brand than you make it out to be due to their military presence.
You'll find a whole lot more A&M fans in military towns (especially on the east coast) than you think.

I lived in Texas for 10yrs, half of atm fans don't even know who they're playing. I've been at parties in Texas where the game wasn't even on the tv.
There's two ways you are wrong, but they're mutually exclusive.
1. Wrong school (you're thinking Texas, as in the burnt orange cowardly kind)
2. Wrong sport (you'd be right in terms of basketball)

2011 analysis by Nate Silver
Garbage. Compiled based on Google searches (to establish the size of the college football fan base in a given market) and an unscientific "survey" of people who logged on to a website, listed their favorite team and where they (the fans) were located.
Highly unreliable. For instance, I would definitely consider myself a big fan of college football, but I have probably not done more than a dozen or so Google searches in my life related to college football. If I want to know what's going on with LSU, I come to TD.com, I don't do a Google search. If I want to see how Team X is doing, I go to espn.com, I don't do a Google search. About the only time I would do a Google search is if I see a reference to something that has apparently happened that I haven't heard about. Then, I might do a Google search to find an old article about it.
I'm sure I must not be the only college football fan who doesn't rely on Google searches for information on college football, so the method he uses to calculate the size of the market is significantly flawed. As for the survey, any self-selected group is going to be very unscientific, especially if it's tied to one particular web site, so his "analysis" of the distribution of fans of each school is also flawed.
This "analysis" is completely useless.

Actually, there are more Kentucky fans in Louisville than there are Louisville fans. The main radio stations in the Louisville also cover the Cats rather than the Cards. They may broadcast UofL's games from time to time but only if it doesn't conflict with UK games. Trust me, we own the ENTIRE state of Kentucky.

This is retarded without some sort of definition of a "fan".
Is it one who goes to every game?
Is it just someone that buys gear?
Is it someone who searches the web.
This is so dumb.
UF - 1
Bama 2
WGAF about the rest

Going by CLC rankings which are based on merchandise sales in 2012 it is as folows:
1) Bama (#2 nationally)
2) Kentucky (3)
3) Florida (4)
4) LSU (6)
5) UGA (8)
6) Auburn (11)
7) Arky (14)
8) Tenn (16)
9) USC (18)
10) Texas A&M (19)
11) MIZZOU (20 but A&M is a much bigger draw?)
12) Ole Miss (45)
13) Vandy (60)
14) Mississppi State? This is a guess because apparently MSU doesn't use CLC for the licensing. Maybe they would be 12 just ahead of ole Miss?

fanship =/= purchased merchandise.
A factor? Sure. But it proves more merchandise is sold to a given fan base, not that said fan base is larger.
To place TAMU at 10th ignores, inter alia, that it has more alumni than all but one SEC school, and is curretly churning out the most grads in the conference. Both of those indicate fanship moreso than merchandise purchased.
Besides, once you see the 2013 numbers, are you really going to tell me TAMU's fan base, in just one year, increased at a rate proportionate to all those Johnny Football jerseys sold? Of course you're not.

Not to mention that the majority of merchandise purchased by #1 on that list is purchased by illegals who don't even know anything about sports besides 3rd world kickball.

Lots of LSU fans in the Panhandle of FL? Really??
I've never noticed many at all. Maybe for spring break and summer vacations.
I'll be there on Monday. I'll see if I smell/see any and give you a tally.
Seriously though, it's UF and lots are dark pink Braves As over there.

No, it's not. It's not the last word on college fandom, but it's more detailed and analytical than any other study out there.

Try this. Go to a bookstore not in an SEC city and see how many books you find about certain teams. Know what sells? Know who buys them? Who travels, on Wednesday?

Do you mean fat LSU fans when you large contingent? Honestly, I have never noticed any purple and yellow over there.
