Rattler is an excellent QB and he wasn't benched because he wasn't a dual threat.

He was benched because he was repeatedly asked to find WRs downfield in 7 and 8 man deep zone coverage. Same thing Caleb suffered from after the texsa game when defenses figured out he was handcuffed as a runner and Riley was asking him to do the same thing he asked of Rattler, which he couldn't do either. That's why Caleb only threw for 87 yards against Iowa State.

Still don’t get the hype with these 2. They’re good, but not top 5 in the nation good.

2021 Scoring Defense rankings:

#9 Oklahoma State
#10 Baylor
#20 Iowa State
#23 Kansas State

"But muh BIG 12 defenzus!"

Rattler barely played against Baylor and Iowa State, did not face Okl State.

In what world are these stats bad?

Spencer Rattler 2021 stats:

Att: 187
Comp: 140
Yards: 1,483
Avg yds pgm: 296.6 yds
TD: 11
Int: 5
Comp %: 75%

He wasn't the runner that Williams was, that was the MAIN reason he was benched.

He made some boneheaded plays last season. Almost cost OK the opener against Tulane. He was flat out bad against Texas.

Take away the game against Western Carolina, and he has a 6-5 TD/INT ratio. He also only ran for 77 yards on the season, so he was not a dual threat. He dinked and dunked his way to a good completion percentage, but yards/game were not strong.

That's irrelevant. The comment was a jab about "but muh BIG 12 defenses" like it's 2011.

Rattler has a terrible attitude and is a program killer, he should be last on that list

The kid backed up Tuddy Franks, has two starting/backup seasons under the same OC and has higher than average numbers all around, including rushing. That's a great foundation to build on, like it or not. 4th? Maybe not. But HYPE isn't what he is about.

2011? Guess I was remembering the Oklahoma defense from two seasons ago.

Do you see Oklahoma anywhere on the Scoring Defense list I posted on page 1? No? I don't either.

I still don’t get the hate for Rattler. He had a coach who had one foot out the door all season and called plays that would hurt SR and allow him to enter Williams. By the way Rattler was undefeated last year and Williams had 2 losses once defenses figured him out.

You now have a coach he’s familiar with and who actually wants Rattler to excel. You have the TE Stogner who played with Rattler as well.

It won’t be long and people will see a better QB in Rattler. Look back at the type plays Snake Riley was calling for Rattler, who is not the most mobile qb. Snake Riley used less running game and sent wrs all downfield with little to no short outlets. And quite a few tjmes he had 3 wrs on same side of field making it easier for defenses to cover.

Time will tell but Rattler is very accurate and if OC calls smart plays he’ll do great. He knew he’d face SEC defenses and still chose SC, have to respect Rattler for wanting to compete against best defenses in country. He could have went elsewhere and padded stats.

They don't want to talk about Rattler's first season he started where he threw for 3031 yards, 67.5%, 28TDs and 7 INTs in his first year playing as a redshirt freshman and came back projected as a Heisman candidate. I guess he just forgot how to play QB.

So the guy that was third string in 2020 (Brennan started until he was hurt, then Finely started the next few games) and was the expected back-up for Brennan in 2021 (until Brennan got hurt again before the season started) is ahead of Daniels who beat out Brennan already. Seems legit.

Max Johnson might be third string if he still at LSU and probably will be a back-up this year at A&M.

Sec folk are just sceptical of big12 defense vs what he will face in the sec he may turn out fine.

I think he comes off as a jerk.

So there are doubts if he can elevate a team. That is a common struggle for "me-first" guys.

Or he may mature. We all do at some point. So who knows.

Quinn Ewers at #24 and DJ Uiagalele at #26 is laughable.

24/7 in here thinking that their recruiting rankings from two and three years ago somehow still carry weight.

Ewers has yet to throw a pass and isn't scheduled to throw one this year apparently. Uiagalele threw more passes to the wrong team last year than he did touchdown passes while throwing 50 less completions than his playing weight.

The qbs in the sec have gotten so much better overall

I get liking pro potential... but for QB's that we've seen play, what they actually have done should kind of matter more.

AR is a 59% completion percentage, 6 TD to 5 INT, 8.3 yards per attempt, 144 passer rating QB.

Will Levis is a 66% completion, 24 TD to 13 INT, 8 yards per attempt, 148 passer rating QB.

By Comparison Stetson Bennett (who doen't have the measurables to project to the pro game at all) is a 65% completion, 29 TD to 7 INT, 10 yards per attempt, 176 passer rating QB.

Ranking them closely is ignoring production in favor of pro potential. Production should probably be counted as more of a factor.

As fans it was so drastic how last season played out vs prior years. Had the same OC (Snake Riley called all plays) yet fans knew something was off but blamed Rattler. Because of Snake Riley having the reputation of genius everyone assumed it was qb.

But as year went in game after game it was strange how many times our offense looked competely out of sync. When put in perspective with ability to look back after TBOW left it made so much more sense.

If one looks at that angle and then put yourself in the shoes of Rattler. He never once complained to media or other players. Think of how he looks back at last season now knowing his coach was out the door early in season. Knowing your HC never put any effort into you, and you had a chance to be a top NFL pick if he devotes all his focus on the team. Imagine how let down Spencer feels knowing his HC betrayed him.

All these one sided stories but if one can look at both sides and realize how much Snake Riley let his starting QB down. And Soencer has not trashed him. It takes a tough kid to have endured all that and still have some confidence.

Spencer could fail bigly and I’ll still never change my opjnion of what Snake Riley did to him. You don’t go from that good to being benched with the same coaching staff unless the coach isn’t trying. The Snake part was making Spencer look bad (any good OC can do that that thru playcalling especially when they are HC too) so he could get Williams time/trust to drag him out west with him.

After the fact I respect Spencer for how he handled things. I hope he can get back to 2020 type play. I respect him for going to SEC too, he did not transfer to a soft conference to pad his stats. If he excels it will be a great comeback story.
