Great, but while I’m biased, I’d put Moorhead ahead of Morris just for the fact that Morris was a finalist for us and we went with Moorhead, who by all accounts was our first choice.

Yeah I’m certainly not sold that Mullen puts us back on top, he has a lot to prove before I jump on that train, Morris may well be a better hire, I just needed more info for that line of thinking. That’s a completely fair argument.

The problem is, Mullen screwed himself with his own success. People seem to forget Miss State is historically the second worst program in the SEC.

Mullen went against the Saban dynasty, some of the best LSU years ever, a strong Ole Miss because of cheating, and a very good Aggies team, oh and Auburn who is either really bad or really good.

At Miss State, 33-39 in conference is darn impressive vs the SEC west, all with more advantages in every category over Miss State. There is a reason many here considered him the second best coach behind Saban in conference this year.

While Miss State fans may have their heads full, if you told them ten years ago of his total record, their rankings, and how many 8+ win seasons he would have..they would have taken it with zero hesitation.

2-15 against ranked opponents, it’s hard to overlook that stat.

Especially because that stat is bullshite.

In 2009

#25 Ole Miss

In 2010:

#22 Gators

2014

#6 A&M
#2 Auburn
#8 LSU

2016

#7 Texas A&M

2017

#12 LSU

I have no idea where this narrative that he's only beaten 2 ranked teams is coming from, but the biggest difference is that all of the teams listed above recruit better than MSU -- and it's hard to recruit there, period.

1) Mullen (will be interesting to see what he can do in a weak east and with better talent)
2) Morris (If yall had taken Gus, he would have been at the top of the list)
3) Fisher (Too long a contract, had a once in a lifetime player, not sure he is a good cultural fit)
4) Luke (has a years experience and beat Mullen)
5) Pruitt (Knows the south)
6) Moorhead

I not only think Mullen is the best hire, but he may be the best coach in the SEC, also. We'll see if he has a ceiling, but what he accomplished at MSU is incredible. I don't know that he's better than Saban, but he's right up there, imo.

The more I learn about Moorhead, the more I like him.

Fordham had 10 losses the year before he arrived, and they have had 10 losses in the 2 years since he left. 38-13 is a very solid number at a difficult place to win.

Franklin was 7-6 and 7-6 before Moorhead showed up. PSU was 20-5 with Moorhead as OC, and the offense scored 39, 49, and 38 in 3 of those losses and one of the other 2 losses was that stupid 3.5-hour delay game against Michigan State.

Morris gets a lot of credit for 40.2 ppg, and that's impressive. How many people on here know that PSU was actually one slot ahead of SMU at 41.6 ppg?

Moorehead did great at Penn State no doubt. But SMU had probably the worst offense in all of college football the year before Morris got there. They averaged 11 points a game. fricking 11

Would like to see a slightly different thread... one that ranks the hires taking the previous coach into consideration...

1) Mcelwain - Mullen
2) Bielema - Morris
3) Sumlin - Fischer
4) Butch - Pruitt
5) Mullen - Moorhead

I am admittedly unsure where Butch - Pruitt should go. Florida is by far the biggest winner. Mcelwain was worse than Bielema.

I care where they finish not where they were ranked during the season. Those rankings mean nothing.

Fordham averaged 13 ppg prior to Moorhead arriving. He took them to 41. PSU averaged 20.6 and 23.0 in Franklin's first 2 years.

For UF fans, Mullen did a helluva job with our team in 2009. We were a rag-tag bunch of misfits in Croom's last year. By the 4th game of 2009, we actually looked like we belonged in the SEC. I think he will right the ship quickly down there.

Mullen followed Croom, that's something people forget.

Croom left a cupboard full of talent sans a QB in 2009. Our 2010 team, all basically Croom’s recruits won 9 games and a number of guys played on Sunday’s.

Croom resigned because we lost to La Tech (1st game) and the last game Ole Miss (45-0) and were 4-8. Talent was not the issue.

But he left the program is much better shape than he inherited in 2003 when we are a dumpster fire.
