What if he said go back to Tennessee, this is Alabama?
I get the xenophobic nature of the comment, which likely displays some ignorance, but it's not really that bad, imo.

It would be racist unless the "victim" was a white male.

He should have been banned. Don't kick him out of school or anything, but if you can't stick to the sport and personally insult student athletes then you shouldn't be there.
Participation in extracurricular activities - even as fans - is a privilege. Give him a year to think about it, learn & grow (like students are supposed to) then allow him back.
Kinda don't understand why this is news.

This PC shite has seriously jumped the shark. Telling someone to go back to their home country, is now grounds for a permanent banning from sporting events? The poor victim is a white dude from Uruguay. Would the PTB, react the same if he was French-Canadian? Doubtful. Thank God, the player wasn't a black Nigerian. Student would be expelled by now.

You know and I both know that French-Canadian kids don't get the "go back to your country" insults.

Although I have told people to go back to their Auburn, Alabama hovels plenty of times. . and meant it.

I'm not surprised. It was clear as day on TV.

Basketball, baseball, and hockey are 3 sports that come to mind where opposing fans openly heckle opposing players and teams. frick this gay Earth with all these hyper-sensitive people.

What? Of course they do. You personally attack other team's players to get under their skin. Been done for decades.

Is it normal for Uruguayans and I’ve missed it somehow?

Back when I played, we played at a school who's student section did research on every player and would have personal chants for each player. I'm showing my age, but this was early internet days before everyone's personal shite was online.
They would research high school programs, newspapers from hometowns, and even yearbooks sometimes.

Dude has an Italian name, is white, and from Uruguay. He will probably need years of counseling to get over that horrific event. Prayers sent.

People that see no issue with this....is the Real problem. This was clearly racist and it's no different than telling a black person to go back to Africa or a white person to Europe
