I know he was a transfer from Alabama but his time in Tennessee was he always this electrifying or was it another idiotic Butch Jones decision playing Herd ahead of him. I remember at the NFL combine he did Overall test better than all the running backs taken before him

He split time with Jalen Hurd who was a good back. I think I remember several sets with both on the field

It was a Lyle decision

Maybe good (meh), but not anywhere near Kamaras level

One of them is Rookie of the year and a pro bowler in the NFL, one of them is a backup tight end at 1-11 Baylor

I think he did something stupid, and got processed.

He hurt his knee early (I believe) and then later got in and stayed in Saban's doghouse due to other behavior issues.

We'll never have the full story but the word around the block is he was pissed off at not getting to play and started talking bad about Alabama to recruits.

He grew up at Tennessee, however. Sometimes, this is just the way it goes though.

He wasn't always used that way but he always flashed great pass catching ability and ability with outside runs.

Lyle had a legit thunder and lightning backfield, one of the better SEC ones since Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown, and the stupid frick lined up his "thunder" in the shotgun for counters and delays, half of which he took without a running threat at QB. "Lightning" got 6-10 touches a game, mostly telegraphed screens out of the slot.

Was telling kids on recruiting trips to Alabama that they shouldn't go there, and it would be a mistake to sign with Alabama, etc, I think. Hard to blame Alabama for telling him to get lost. He was just in a hurry to play.

Dobbs? Pretty sure he was a running threat!

This revisionist history is getting ridiculous. No Tennessee fan was calling Hurd average in 2015. Most were arguing he was the best RB in the SEC and better than Fournette. Hurd was also considered a Heisman Trophy candidate heading into the 2016 season. ESPN in fact did a story on him being a Heisman candidate.

Hurd was very good. In fact in 2015, one could argue he was ELITE. Especially given how bad the Tennessee offensive line was.

With that said, Butch still should have given Alvin more playing time. Because even though Hurd was better than him in 2015, Alvin was still the 3rd best player on Tennessee's offense. He deserved more touches and should have been used more as a receiver out of the backfield like Sean Payton is using him right now. But Vols fans need to stop rewriting history on Jalen Hurd.

Alvin Kamara was unstoppable at Kyle Field. Chavis had no answer. Maybe that wasn't as much of Chavis's fault as I thought.

Hurd was good in 2015. He sucked in 2016 tho. The main crime was that in 2016 Kamara didn't play more.

Also, one thing about AK is that he got better every year. He really took to Coach G's coaching and pushed himself. AK in 2015 wasn't as good as AK in 2016. The fact that Coach Gillespie was the only staff member retained tells you all you need to know. He was doing the coaching (and he's a damn fine coach) but someone else (CBJ) was calling the shots on who was running.

The TAMU game that featured AK and John Kelly also said it all. They broke records without Hurd.

What about 99 points and countless yards over 2 years? It shouldn't be hard to upgrade at DC for y'all. Chavis at Arky would be a disaster. He needs elite personnel to succeed, and with his recruiting and Arky's talent pool, that will never happen.

If you gave a coach like Dabo or Urban a backfield of Dobbs, Hurd, Kamara, and Kelly, they’d win a title. It is the absolutely mind blowing that the biggest game those guys ever played in at Tennessee was a fricking Outback Bowl
