I feel there maybe a rivalry brewing between OU and LSU though.
I think for Thanksgiving rivalry weekend, LSU/Arkansas and OU/Mizzou make more sense from a historical perspective. But it's clear that they're trying to make Mizzou/Arkansas a thing, and LSU/OU are the two biggest brands of those 4 so they're trying to force that for now. Forced or not, if LSU/OU does become a thing going forward, I personally don't mind it. It could evolve into something big and that's an exciting prospect to witness the beginning of something that might become a big thing between us in the future.

It was beautiful… some great games came from that rivalry when both programs were at full strength.

Big money TV execs may not see it, but an ending of UT-A&M, LSU-ARK, and MU-OU makes the most sense
But they’ll probably match LSU with OU and us with Arkansas because they’ll want “equal programs” to play each other…
Which would be unfortunate because playing OU was funner than most normal SEC games so I don’t want to see that go away

Big12 is no SEC
Meanwhile the SEC moves heaven and earth to make sure Alabama-Tennessee gets played every year, and on the same day
The Big12 only prioritized the Texas-OU rivalry. The SEC prioritized all the biggest rivalries

Yes OU /Neb was a big rivalry while in the Big 8.It goes back a ways. My viewing started in the 60s and it was already a big rivalry then. The 1971 OU/Neb Game was the original Game of the Century. This annual OU/Nb game determined who won the Big 8 and got the Orangebowl.
OU/OSU was the instate game but was a far lesser event due to OU winning most year.
RRR is the big Rivalry that goes back forever. It is more of a hate type rivalry than OU/Nebraska and was more important in terms of bragging rights.. The importance came from many issues, recruiting, business rivalries, one upsmanship over neighbors, and the familiarity. Between the players and coaches. Shortwhornes stadium is named after an Okie who played for OU then coached the shortwhornes.

At least they were one at one point. Texas has never and will never be a juggernaut at ANY sport the SEC cares about.

I think you got that reflective disdorder disease for sure with that comment.
LSU is a nobody
Penn St. , A&M and LSU are all equals

Well LSU has more nattys in football and baseball than you short horns. So if we’re a nobody, what does that make y’all?

Hyena is a horn? Thanks for letting me know lol.
Nebraska being a national brand at one point is wild. Was Tom Osborne considered an upper echelon coach at that time like Bowden?

Yes he was. Actually, until 1994 he was considered in the same category as Brian Kelly is now, a good coach, just can’t win the big one. Once he did though, it was like the damn broke and he won 3 in a 4 year period. I was born on ‘81. Throughout my childhood until I pretty much went to college Nebraska was a year in year out top 5 program pretty much every year.

I thought we had 2 1/2? That’s what you said earlier! Just keep on.
Posted on 6/29/25 at 3:07 am to Hyena531
No such thing as a half title. But if you’re claiming LSU has a half title because of 2003, then the same would apply to Texas in 1970 as they shared with Nebraska. Therefore, by your logic, Horns and Tigers have three full titles and one shared title.
Do better with your banter.

You're right. But in their weak defense, if they were going to make a schedule that was in any way arguably equitable, they had to drop some permanent games. I remember at the time, when the new conference was announced, trying to fiddle with the schedules myself out of curiousity, naturally trying to preserve what I considered to be the 'big' games (one of those being OU/Nebraska).
It was hard! I sort of cobbled together a semi-convaluted scheme where OU had 3 permanent, TX and a couple of other teams 2 permanent, 6 or 7 teams 1 permanent, and I think Baylor had no permanent team at all. It was pretty goofy - and exceptionally unrealistic.

When I was a kid and teenager growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, OU-Nebraska was one of the biggest rivalries in the country. Must see college football. Switzer vs Osborne. It was a huge game every year.
Posted on 6/29/25 at 5:49 am to Boomer65
Nebraska was bad before they left they thought they would have a better shot in big10

Tom Osborne was one of the best but he didn't start winning nattys until Switzer retired. Switzer owned him.
