Do you think Petrino will be a successful OC as long as Jimbo stays out of the kitchen?

I’ve never seen him as an offensive coordinator so I can’t say. He might be allowed to turn his full attention to the offense this year so it may be more than we’ve seen.
If allowed to coach he should be able to boost your offense a good bit.

If he is allowed to call plays and have full control of the offense, absolutely.

I will say one thing, the Aggies are stacked at the skill positions and OL should be better.
If the offense doesn't click then we can say that Petrino has lost his touch.
Myself, I have great respect for his coaching ability and this will be interesting to watch.

10 years ago, I would have said most definitely. But he struggled after we fired him and I'm not sure why, because I didn't keep up with him.

I hope you guys remembered to put a no motorcycle clause

Yes, his problem isn’t coaching. He can coach like few others. His problem is he is abrasive to staff and the athletes. It makes it hard to recruit and retain good assistants. He will give you about 2 years of good results before recruits start avoiding you because of him being and a-hole.

He’s recruiting pretty damn good so far.

Yea that's eventually what happens to Petrino teams, he's can only hide that dick nature for so long. With all A$M's guys being highly paid, it will eventually become a power struggle between the players and him. All he wants to do is practice the passing game, that'll start the team issue. Then he's going to be losing his mind on players for not executing, that will begin the player revolt, then Jimbo will have an issue in the film room wanting a different play scheme and off he'll be. The dude literally can't stay anywhere more than a couple years.
I will say Jimbo's offense has been awful so you will see improvement but make no mistake, EVERYWHERE he's been, he's left a major mess and you guys are hoping to change history. Good luck.

Oh whatever, y’all miss him

Miss him, no. He's going to leave a disaster in his wake, it's literally what he does everywhere. Players and mamas know his rep, there's only so much cash that can overcome that. He's going to f u up before all is said and done but I expect you to be better initially when bobby is being a team player.

Therein lies the problem though, Jimbo is, by nature, an offensive coach. And he's one that is convinced he's a damn genius. Petrino is a complete a-hole.
I suspect that Petrino and Jimbo only have about a 50-50 chance of getting through the first few games without having a Nutt/Malzahn type break. Big egos don't tend to tolerate one another, especially when they have to share the same turf.
If they can manage to play nice with one another for a year (and I would be surprised if Petrino stays there longer, he's probably looking for one last HC gig before he rides his Harley off into the sunset) then Petrino should be able to field a fairly deadly offense.
But what happens the first time the Petrino offense stalls out? Because that will happen sooner or later. Will Jimbo step back and let Petrino correct things or step in to "save" the game?

All the Hawg bros who have responded have it correct.
He will be penitent and on fire for a season and a half to 3 seasons, then the true nature of the guy will shine through.
he might survive longer, but a lot of players and coaches under him will "peace-out" after called a fookin a-hole and retard for the 87th time for missing an audible/line call/drinking water, etc.
I know that if Petrino was still coaching the Hawgs in 2013(?), almost every instate recruit was headed elsewhere.. most notably Hunter Henry. Hunter is a football legacy for the Hawgs, as his grandpa and his dad were both Razorbacks players. Takes a lot for a coach to burn that kind of bridge,
Maybe Jumbo can screw Petrino's head on straight, now that Petrino is a grandpa (I hear). but I really have my doubts.
Somewhere/somehow like Drogon flying out of the sun he will f-u in the most monumental way possible. And Texas A&M will pay the bill.
Luck!!

I think Petrino has aspirations of being an SEC HC again. If he can put A&M on, in 2 years he would probably interview for any open SEC job.

Petrino had an offensive mind that was light years ahead of the competition when he was at Arkansas and during his 1st Louisville run. I think the football world has caught up to him a little bit but he is still a tremendous playcaller and just has a knack for dialing the right number at the right time.
Should be fine at A&M as long as Jimbo leaves him alone.

If jumbo leaves him alone, I’m not looking forward to facing a Petrino offense with a buttload of talent at the skill positions. If Jumbo leaves Petrino alone, Aggies are definitely a sleeper.

He's good for 3 years? TAMU takes that scenario in a hiccup. In 3 years, with all that Texas talent schools will be begging Petrino to come to their place.

I miss his results - but clearly he made no friends in the athletic department. If your players look at this is a professional environment and welcome being coached really hard, y'all will thrive. If you have guys that want to be pampered, they will leave.

Those guys all go to the other big school in Texas

As I was told by someone close to the UA staff "Bobby pissed off a lot of people around here" and that was before the motorcycle incident.
