Question for Alabama alumni

How significant of an impact has the recent decade of Football success over the past decade had on both the academics and campus culture of The University of Alabama?
The University lists the MEDIAN ACT of UA's current freshman class at 27, which is up 6 points from the median of 21 in 2007 when Nick Saban took over. Additionally the University has expanded research programs and been able to invest heavily in the campus infrastructure.
I just wanted to get opinions from alumni on this topic. Have you noticed a cultural change on campus? Friends of mine who went there have been adamant that the rising academic quality, as well as the improved geographic diversity of the student body has gone a long way torwards drowning out what used to be an incredibly insular, and toxic Greek culture on campus, on top of improved academic reputation.
Can anybody corroborate this?

Enrollment and tuition have increased and we get more out of state students so more $$$. Lots of construction and growth and the university has become more selective. Not sure what Greek has to do with anything at all but I never noticed any sort of "toxic" environment.
I started in Sabans first year. I think enrollment is up almost 50% since that time.

Nick Saban is the best investment the University of Alabama has ever made. /thread

It's been almost 3 years since I was on campus and I don't know if I'll recognize it when I eventually return.

I feel like we just had this thread.
But I started school in 2009 at Alabama, graduated in 2012. The difference in just those three years was extraordinary. It seemed like new buildings were popping up at every turn, old buildings were renovated constantly and the overall feel of the campus was improved. The science and research labs were top-notch after they were all completed, and it wasn't so in 2009.
The university got a ton of money, and they reinvested wisely.

Did your wife leave you for a Bama fan that didn't attend Alabama?

UAT has gone from being a laughingstock of a university to a laughingstock of a university with a few more trophies to make them feel a bit better about their laughingstock status.

I was gonna say "What does that make Auburn?" But I thought about the comparison and it made me sad for you

Business is booming. Go look at the fraternity and sorority houses they're building. 15 million dollars +. Biggest in the country

I'm not a fan of this growth. When I was there in the 80's we had 15-17k students. In 2005 we had 19,000 students. 10 years later we have 37,000. My son regularly has 250 students in his class and it's hell to get an appointment with an adviser. I had to raise hell (and pull alumni connected shite) last semester to move his appointment up from a month away. As a parent I'm ready to pull him out. Honest truth.
Slow the growth down and manage it right first.

Makes us bamas goddamn Daddy son.
Course we will never claim you clowns and will continue to insist we are in Georgia to try and avoid the embarrassment by association.

There wasn't any backhanded slights intended. If anything, my purpose for asking would indicate I have respect for Alabama as an institution. I'm trying to gauge academic and culture of UA's campus. A family member of mine wants to go to an SEC school, and I'm trying to steer her away from Ole Miss for a variety of reasons.

It is an ever changing campus, culture and infrastructure. All positives as is the fact that while number of undergrads has grown exponentially it has done so while recruiting higher % of students in top 25, 10 and 5 of their HS classes - bringing in quality students.
As for "toxic Greek culture", more national chapters are being added to accommodate those wanting to participate and new houses are being constructed for old and new fraternities/sororities.
Come see us, it's obvious.

I'm a senior and I've had a biology class and a couple of BS electives that were that big. The classes that matter are usually 30-60 people.
