I'm not a fan of this growth. When I was there in the 80's we had 15-17k students. In 2005 we had 19,000 students. 10 years later we have 37,000. My son regularly has 250 students in his class and it's hell to get an appointment with an adviser. I had to raise hell (and pull alumni connected shite) last semester to move his appointment up from a month away. As a parent I'm ready to pull him out. Honest truth.

Slow the growth down and manage it right first.

Totally agree. I started in 04 when there were half as many students and I feel like overall the campus experience and education quality is going down, despite the "statistics" they are showing. Alabama will never be U of Michigan or UVA so quit changing everything at the school just to bump it up a few points in the US News rankings.

As an alumnus, I can tell you that the University has greatly improved over the past decade. We aren't just recruiting giants in football. We bring in a lot of national scholars, more than any other school, and it's quite nice what we are doing.

Im curious how this will change the state. Surely some of those out of staters will find good jobs in Alabama and contribute to their communities, socially and politically.

Will be interesting to see how state politics and finances are in 10 or so years.
