Question about WLOCP for UGA/UF fans...
What stadium will host in Savannah?
Jax is the only good spot for a neutral game. NFL venue, and Jax is right on the border of Florida and Georgia, which brings in money to both states. Even if they built a great stadium, outside of a amount of travel time from each school, Savannah makes zero sense. A lot more is involved than just how far away it is from the college towns. You won’t find a better spot for a neutral site game between these schools than Jacksonville.
I didn't say Savannah had a field. I'm just looking @ it based on the distance from each campus. & there's no way you can deny Jacksonville being the wrong place. @ 71 miles, you might as well change it to Gainesville, thereby forcing it to be a home/home setup.

This is what surprised me the most too. Every gator fan I've ran across the 6 times I've gone to the game has either been neutral to my group, or very kind.
Unless you can't stand playful banter and the occasional gator chomp directed at you, it's a pretty calm environment compared to being around USC, Auburn, Tennessee, or Tech fans before the game.

With Ben-Epps being able to cater to bigger planes for the team this distance is pretty much nothing for them anymore. On top of that, it's not like UGA struggles to get any fans to attend the game.

I've heard some fans say they'd like the series to go Home-Home-Jax. Seems some of them don't like Jax. I guess there are problems with parking and other items.

Should stay in Jax forever.

I didn't say anything about the fans. I'm just looking @ it geographically, which is basically in Gainesville's back yard. Therefore I don't see this as neutral, but a home game for Florida.

Athens > Jax

It is also very close to South Georgia with rabid fans that don’t get to go to Athens often due to the distance. Jax itself is loaded with UGA fans too. It’s not really Gainesville backyard.

Also I believe Georgia has a fall break and UF doesn’t. And There are tons of fans that travel from South Florida to the game which is similar distance as traveling from North Georgia. Most UGa fans that don’t support it being in Jax have never been to the game and don’t know anything about it. They only look at distance from campus. Georgia fans who have been to the game are more diehard than Gator fans about keeping it in Jax.
And I do think it is funny that I have been to half a dozen Cocktail parties and went to the UF/UGa game in Gville in the 90’s but have never been to Athens. I should have gone when I had a chance the one time it was played there.

I get your point about the geography and the College towns. But geographically for the fan bases there is still no better place than Jacksonville for a neutral site game. There are more UGA fans in North east Florida, than Florida fans in South Georgia. Where else would be more fair fan base wise geographically?

Fans are what makes something a home game or an away game.
Since the stadium is always a 50/50 split, and UGA fans turn out just as much as Gator fans in the Jacksonville area, what is the problem? The neutral site idea is working perfectly here.
It’s closer to their home stadium. That’s the only “advantage” they have. Last I checked, how close you are to your stadium doesn’t swing a game in your favor.

People who don't go to the game dont understand this. I live an hr away from Jville and we are 70% UGA fans around here. Amelia Island is probably more UGA fans than UF fans. Jville itself is a probably closer to 50/50 than anywhere else on this planet. Its really not a home game for UF.

quote:Wasn't an insult or anything, I just feel like almost all alumni support it as it's such a tradition as a student and they usually have the means to keep going if they so wish. With a direct flight it actually is less travel time for our team to get there.
Yup
Growing up in south Georgia, it was usually the one game that we'd go to a year. We wouldn't do overnight trips often as it was pretty pricey for a football game and the 2.5 hour drive to Jax was much better than the 5 to Athens.

I didn't know neutral site games had to be based on the location of the fans. Wouldn't it be more along the locations of the schools?

No, but how far away it is for one team can swing the travel bug against them.

Didn't think it was an insulting question.
But as to the topic, call me old fashioned since I like the home/home of games & feel that neutral sites should only be for bowl games.

That's why I raised the point about Ben-Epps in Athens being able to accommodate larger planes for the team. Probably takes an hour max for the team to get to Jacksonville by plane. Same time it would take the Gators to ride a bus into Jax.
