Sooners will do much better than they ever did with Riley.
Basketball on grass offense is a dime a dozen.
Defense is not.
Venables will get the Sooners back to playing defense. He should be smart enough to find an OC who can handle that side of the ball adequately enough to finish games with 2 possession lead or more.

I don't think they even know that Lebby's offenses at Ole Miss just as highly ranked, or often higher, than Riley's, with lesser talent.
But Riley is an "offernsive gernius".
Kansas didn't think so. Nor did Baylor, or Okie Lite, or Tulane, or Nebraska, or Iowa State.

When they went head to head as coordinators:
Clemson: 37
OU: 17
Take it for what it's worth.

I don't expect that defense to be elite but the offense will be there or thereabouts.

Looking back, that was our first glimpse of the "offernsive gernius" getting shut out for an entire half by a defense with a pulse.
Since when do "offernsive gerniuses" get shut out for entire halves of games as often as Riley did?
Heupel didn't even have that problem and he was fired.

The defense is stocked with plenty of talent for Venable's to play with. There is talent all over the 3 levels of the defense and it's pretty deep.
The only place I'd say we could really use some upgraded talent is the IDL. The guys we have there are solid, good players, but not elite.
Loaded with talent on the Ends, LBs, and lots of options in the secondary.

This is MOJO level stupidity here.

The Sooners had an offensive genius in Riley. Now they have a defensive genius in Venables as HC. Will the results be the same or not and why?
If Lebby sticks around the results should be much better. We know Venables is going to have good defenses. Lebby’s offenses were ranked higher than OU’s in 2020 & 2021 going up against SEC defenses. With less all around talent. OU is going to have better QB play than last year. Offensive line should be better. Take a slight hit at RB. Wide receiver position will be just as good if not better.
I think the most important thing that gets overlooked is strength and conditioning. Coach Wylie was a joke and it showed. Jerry Schmidt will have those boys ready. I’m glad he’s back. He probably couldn’t wait to get out of college station.

Is Venables going to call the defense?

Are you seriously questioning Venables? You're a shite talking moron aggot. Of course you are.
A guy that’s never been a head coach before, was let go in OU 10 years ago. Yes he has questions.

He’s not? He had like a hundred heisman winners.
Ruley had 3 transfers who were already great before they arrived. He did little to develop them. His recruit qb Rattler he benched. His recruit qb Williams had 2 losses and teams had figured out. Riley is not as great as some think he just had great luck. He’s not bad either just nit what some think.
Jeff Lebby’s offenses have been in the top 5 in total offense in EACH of the past 3 seasons. He’s the ONLY OC in the country who can claim that.
Venables’s defenses have finished in the top 5 in scoring defense in 5 of the last 8 seasons, 4 times in the top 2.

Y'all are hilarious!
PS for you dumbasses. Venables wasn't "fired" nor was he ever "let go". You can't even get the basics right and we're supposed to take your opinions seriously?

Correct. BV was never fired, about to be demoted, run off by the fans or any of the other horseshite we see repeated over and over, mostly by Aggots who don't live in reality when it comes to their program or anyone else's.
Venables and Stoops are loyal guys, maybe to a bit of a fault. The only coach I can recall Bob firing was Heupel, and that broke his heart, even though we clearly needed a change at that point.
There's no doubt that Lincoln could come up with an offensive game plan. His weakness came when opponents adjusted, and we had a nail-biter on our hands in the 4th quarter of way too many games. He never could adapt worth a shite in-game. Plenty of fans voiced their concerns over that in his first year as OC and in every year after that.
If OU's offense takes a step back from last year, we're in serious trouble. Last year's offense sucked.

OU will be dominant and physical. This ain’t Riley’s Sooner teams anymore. You will all find out soon enough.

Your response for each point was awful.
I assume your emoji’s at each line mean that you can’t rebuttal any of it.
Venables has been an “in the shadows” D coordinator and all of a sudden he is Saban is stupid.
9 wins in regular season max and I will ban bet you. Let’s do it. You in??

Like every other team in the country...
It's August, and OU is undefeated. Fans are high on the team and its potential.
Here is how I see it being as objective as I can be as an OU fan.
They have a lot of guys back who have logged a lot of snaps whether it be at OU or elsewhere. This is true on both sides of the ball.
They lack superstar/ All American type talent and have few All Big XII preseason picks. Some guys will have to emerge if they are going to be a playoff contender.
They are probably about like they were last year. No better no worse. Good enough to win the Big XII but probably in a horserace with a couple of other teams.
If they make the playoff they will likely be overmatched to some degree by the other playoff teams.
All bets are off if Dillon Gabriel gets injured for any length of time.

SO THE OP is asking if the Sooners will barely get third in a down year for the Big 12 which was Riley’s result.....
Coaching Will Be much better this year ....I expect Sooners to win conference and make playoffs....during the year we will see if they get good enough to win playoffs.
